Swype is decent once you figure it out. It's great for one handed typing. For two thumb typing i tend to use SwiftKey.
Swype and SwiftKey both have pluses and minuses. I'm faster with Swype since I'm not an autocorrect/predictive text typer, but SwiftKey is really darn good at predicting your next word automatically.

Samsung's own keyboard with swipe to type is okay, but SwiftKey/Swype are better.

Nice choice! I got the same phone as well. The idea of having to buy all new car and travel chargers was the deal breaker for me. My old phone was micro USB, and so is my wife's phone. Between the two of us, we always have a charger or USB sync cable handy no matter who's car we're in.

I was able to keep my old plan because I selected the android, if I wanted the iPhone I would have had to switch. With road side assistance service, 450 minutes & 4GB my bill is like $72. Not nearly as cheap as the various prepaid plans out there but I need a device that works when I travel. Big Red has never failed me in terms of reception so I am pretty happy.

Take a look at Page Plus. Verizon's coverage on a prepaid plan. $55 for unlimited talk, text, and 2GB data. Bring your own device. I have 4 phones on PP, and have had no issues for almost 2 years with them. I get my plans through http://www.kittywireless.com

In NYC my job supplied droid razr lte is shit compared to my tmobile sgs3 on tmobile 4g. On lte I get 5-10mbs and on my sgs3 I always get 13-24.

there is almost no 4g around me besides LTE, and coverage in the area of town where I work is spotty on anything but Verizon

verizon has the state contract for cell service, and we have microcells on the university campus, my previous govt jobs had BDA's for verizon in building

I can pull 10+ when I run speedtests on LTE here during primetime

I can understand the weakness! I wanted to ditch Verizon but just messing with the SGS3 and I walked out with one. Digging this phone. As for Verizon coverage ; I'm currently up in the mountains in Lake Arrowhead CA in a cabin with a bunch of friends. No one else's cell works up here, but full bars on my wife and my Verizon phones. Bastards are good for something after all.

It's a good thing you like blue cause you'll be seeing a lot of that on the screen...

what are you talking about? This screen is absolutely gorgeous very clear nice bright whites on the forum. I always liked samsung screens and the display on this device is beautiful.

Agreed. My wife has the GS3 and that screen makes my 4S look rather pedestrian.

Yep, AMOLED screens have always been amazing and received great praise from almost everybody since they started to become common place in early 2010. Then randomly one or two people on the Anandtech forums found the gadgets section of the forum in like 2012 and were like "don't you guys know AMOLED is bad! Hey hey listen it's bad!! ahhhhhhhhhhh it's not even made by Sony how can it be any good stop liking it ahhhhh" I should be an actor.

Well put. I guess if a product isn't made by your "team" then it cannot possibly be any good. Oh well, I consider us lucky to have a number of good products to choose from.

I prefer amoled to lcd no matter what anyone says about oversaturation or contrast. I'm not doing production work on a mobile phone.

Regular screens from HTC or Apple is just dull as hell to me unless I jack the brightness up and kill the battery life with blacks and darks looking washed out. I care about how well I can see the screen and amoled hasn't let me down.

They are extremely bluish. I have a Japanese HTC One S with Super AMOLED and it is not bluish compared to my friend's SGS3. And they're both pentile. But I guess once you're used to the blue it becomes white...

I have a Windows Phone but even I know Android has apps that let you adjust your screen's color settings (reg/green/blue channels) to suit your preference.

I wish Windows Phones had something similar. Not that I have any issues with the LCD screen on my HTC 7 Mozart but it seems like a useful thing to have.

always preferred Samsung screens, they just seem to provide warmth and richness to my viewing experiences.

So after all of your rants against Samsung and AMOLED displays you get a phone with a Samsung Super AMOLED display in it.

Good choice. It would be nice if apple just didn't change one or two features each year while never updating the UI.

The only way they could "update" the UI is if they copied something else, like Androids widgets or WP7 live tiles. Or WebOS, or Symbian Belle. Actually they could do that cuz at this point very few people remember.

At this point, Swype is a requirement for me. If there was a competing product that was as easy and fast, I'd try it, but there has simply been nothing that even comes close. I can, for the most part, send texts without even looking at my keyboard, if necessary.

Even if Android had blatantly inferior devices, I probably would be unable to give up Swype.
