If they don't know now, they should be able to figure it out soon! I just think it's ironic that the Japanese import fanboys hold up the Supra Turbo as the be all, end all sports car, and it has almost no relation to their daily drivers, other than it's diminutive size.

Now we have people tricking out these 'exotic' machines to produce monster horsepower and they gape in awe. It's like modding a high tech 2 cycle, weedwacker to cut your lawn, when a low tech, 22" 4 cycle, mower from Walmart will do the job better and cheaper. And no, it won't handle the tight 'curves', but a smart landscaper will eliminate those... much like the majority of our American roads! >>


spoken with ignorance yet again. one of the most revered japanese racers is the trueno, which is RWD. not to mention the rx-7, supra, nsx, silvia, and the skyline and evo (AWD). what a person drives and what they drool over are two completely different things. FWD is BETTER for regular everyday driving. (imo)

you can mod the camaro all you want. in the end you're only gonna have a nose heavy yacht that can go either straight or to the left - they don't handle very well. i would LOVE to see what would happen if those nascar "drivers" actually had to drive CLOCKWISE one of these days. or on a REAL race course.

First of all, the topic is about making massive power with a $40K, RWD, Sport Compact. Then we get the ignorant blurting, "...way to show those domestics whose boss...". Like this unique car bares any resemblance to their "non-domestic" everyday ride. Then more ignorant blurting about "everyday driving" and "don't handle very well". Doesn't handle well enough for "everyday driving"? Make up your mind!

When it's pointed out that more power can be made easier and cheaper from a run of the mill, $20K, RWD, V8, which was the point of this topic after all, then the Japanese fanboys start yammering about handling again. Like that matters in "everyday driving". Like that matters from stoplight to stoplight. If you want to have your cake and eat it too, the V8, RWD domestic is the ONLY way to go for low initial cost, easy upgrades, general durability and showing Sport Compact fanboys "whose boss" in "everyday driving".

i agree. for cheap power, domestics are the way to go. i'm not gonna argue with you on that one. i don't know if you remember, but a couple of months ago i was looking to buy an SS. i got all pumped and excited. then i test-drove one. yes, it has power, but it's hard to see over the hood, the interior feels cheap, the shifter is awkward, and the suspension is soft. needless to say, i was disappointed.

personally speaking, when talking about cars i like to have a balance of things - power, speed, handling, quality, etc. and i LOVE turboes. they're very practical and efficient. until they kick in, cars can be practical and chill. once they kick in, it's like an alter ego. not to mention that the cars are lighter overall, and have better handling. imo.

Why do people get so excited about domestics vs imports? To each their own way. It's like why do people buy NSX? That car can't really move on a quarter mile. However, people love the exotic look.

Though I can't find the link, somebody pointed out that racing karts can out run cars like the Elise. My goal is to have as much car wrapped around me and still have as much, non exotic performance as possible. The Bentley Turbo R fits that bill. Yeah, I know it costs a fortune, but it has a pretty conventional configuration. Yeah, I'll build me one of those!

What the 3 or 4 that have ever run tens? That is such a small number compared to the ones who make 600+ RWHP C'mon now. Time after time have I seen a supra dyno sheet of over 500 rwhp. Then you ask them their time. Oh a 12.50. WTF??? Most of those guys don't even list E.T.'s in their sig, just dyno numbers.

Why all the fighting?
I think Supra's are awsome but I've always wanted a Ferrari or Viper for as long as I can remember.
Wouldn't it be grand to have an F50 or a Viper GTS-R? I coulnd't drive any of these wonderful bueaties though, for the stick shift is a odds with me.
I guess I'll have to wait for a Mercedes-Benz Vision SLR or something like it.

For now I'll stick with my "redneck"(as many of you have put it) Dodge Ram.

Heck if I were to spend 40K on a car it would either be:

A Porsche
Used Viper
Corvette
Saleen
or a New Cobra and bank whats left...

Nice picks but the Ferrari and the Viper are the two nicest looking imho...with my preference going to the viper even though hennessey is an a hole.

While I like supra's for daily drivers and sports cars..I don't think they are a good buy with the intent to Mod or race as their upkeep is just too pricey.
