I took my wife and son to the range today to give them both a chance to use the Glock 17 I got a couple of weeks ago.

My wife only did about 20 rounds but she did damn good with head shots, my son did about 50 rounds, his first time firing a gun, he will be 12 in december, he did surprisingly well, I told him to go for center mass so he didnt try for headshots, after he shot a few times I had him try pairs and he never missed the target, the spread was wide but they were all on the board, it was funny though, I think it was on his second shot that he was a bit high and shot the clip that holds the board to the pulley and he shot down the target :D

I did over 200 rounds, doing pairs and bursts and full clip dumps, the spread was wild on the full clip dumps but most of them hit the board.

After we were there for 30 minutes or so this guy came in with a couple of duffle bags and ammo cases and sets up in the lane next to us, he started off slow and whatever he was firing sounded similar to my Glock 9mm, maybe a bit louder, and you could feel the blast like a subwoofer when he was shooting.

Then he picked up the pace, range rules are 5 shot bursts for full auto and he was doing just that but there was only a split second pause between the 5 shot bursts, it was pretty awesome to see and hear, I dont even know why he bothered using targets because they were centered out after the first burst :D

After a while he switched to handguns with silencers, I noticed this right away cause it sounded exactly like it does in the movies, I dont know what guns they were, one looked like a Glock but with a metal body, the other might have been a desert eagle.

Things I learned at the firing range today............

I want an automatic weapon, and a silencer :D

The wife is good with headshots.

My son has a good eye and wants to take up marksmanship

Silencers are legal?

Yes, but they require a Class 3 license and are very costly.

To the best of our knowledge, silencers are legal for private ownership in the following states: AL, AR, AK, AZ, CO, CT, FL, GA, ID, IN, KY, LA, ME, MD, MS, MT, NE, NV, NH, NM, NC, ND, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WV, WI, and WY. Additionally, they maybe owned by Class 3 dealers and Class 2 manufacturers (but not individuals) in: CA, IA, KS, MA, MO, and MI. Territorial law prohibits possession in the Territories and Possessions of the United States. There are no known restrictions on governmental ownership. If your state is not listed, check with your local office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, & Firearms or your state's Attorney General. If they are not legal in your state of residence, we cannot sell to you. Please do not ask us to violate state or federal law.

You should have walked over and asked if you could try it out. Paying for ammo, of course.

Chances are he'd let you.

I know nothing about guns except that most people hunt with long ones.

What is a Glock 17? I know I could google it, just wondering if you have pics of your's.

Also, how much does something like that cost? Is ammo expensive?

It is a semi automatic handgun, I paid $479.00 and got 2 boxes of 100 rounds for $12.00/box ($0.12 per round) I have not taken pictures of it, a google image search will get you thousands of pics.

Actually you would want something that makes the most noise such as a 12 gauge shot gun.
