Went to the most bizarre wedding last night...

Ceremony and reception were both held in a concert hall/indy theater.

The 5 bridesmaids all wore different dresses....and 5 totally different COLORS. One of them looked like a tranny Marilyn Monroe impersonator.

2 of the 5 groomsmen, including the best man, were WOMEN. The best "man" had dreadlocks, and had died part of them blue (the wedding color)

The groom's sister and bride's brother performed the ceremony.

As part of the ceremony, they traded gold chocolate coins, ate honey and walnuts, and were tied up with white rope. Apparently they are traditions from around the world.

As they left after the cermeony, a guy played the Star Wars theme on al electric guitar.

it was a co-worker of my fiance. She said it kind of fit them, as far as being casual and all, but we both thought it was weird. I've never met them before.

I have a wedding next week - American [Italian] ... hopefully with 350 people going, it won't be traditional but I have a feeling it will be.

If they were tied up around the hands, it is called Handfasting. I did it at my wedding around a month ago. handfasting pic

Yes we did, although it was more Celtic/Scottish than medieval, so much more interesting than a "traditional" wedding. One thing that we really enjoyed was that it involved a large number of people (parents, brothers, sisters, friends) in the ceremony & that it was a relaxed (not formal and stuffy) wedding.

Some of the non-traditionl things that we did were

"kirking of the tartan" I place a strip of tartan over the bride to signify that she is now under the protection of my clan.

"offering of elements" we were presented with each of the elements (air, fire, earth, water). Of special importance was that the Earth and Water were from the family farm (which has been in our family since selection in the 1850's)

"offering of teacakes" my mother made teacakes which where offered to us as the first food that we have together as a married couple (origin of the wedding cake).

"offering of mead" we both pour mead into a quaich (a scottish welcoming dish) and if my bride drinks from the same place as I did, then she accepts me. This is the first drink that we have as a married couple.

Marriage candle we both light a marriage candle (the large one in the pic), this is meant to be lit on each anniversary as a remembrance.

gosh, this is only half the things that we did, all I can say was that it was fun.
