As a christmas gift my parents gave me and my GF tickets to the opera at the lincoln center in new york city. Each seat was 120$ and was on the dress circle, perfect view. The singers in the opera are amazing but after about 30minutes me and my GF just couldnt wait to get the hell out of there...

We are 21 years old, and in the entire giant audience i bet also one of the younged as the average opera goer is about 40 years our senior.

I hope they dont get us tickets to the opera again... :frown:

I had the best nap of my life at the last one I went to, until that fat broad started screeching at the end :|

I like a fair amount of classical music, but can only enjoy opera in very small doses. I'd rather endure it than Broadway music though. Let's all sing together now! "I'm Checkin' In!"

Opera is extremely hard to listen to. Italian opera most of all, as it just sounds really tacky and iritating in Italian. I'd ask for tickets to the Messiah or one of Bach's Passions next time.

It seems to me you had little interest in going or even trying to like it. Evidence: you didn't even mention in your post which opera it was.

i actually sort of enjoyed the last opera i went to with my ex. 😱 yeah i'm pretty sure we were the youngest people there (mid 20's)

Not all opera is written in Italian, of course. Librettos can be written in nearly any language.

Would suggest starting with something more on the popular or "fun" side of Opera. Orff's Carmina Burana would be a good choice for someone new to opera. The libretto is written in Latin (save one section which contains some German), and a few of the melodies may even be somewhat familiar to non-opera followers.

I miss the opera...haven't gone in over 2 years now. Not since my g/f of the time did I have someone to make an evening out of it and actually have both parties enjoy it.

Then again...I enjoy movies and concerts on my own...hmmm.

Sorry the opera was Lucia di Lammermoor.

And at the Metropolitan opera at the front of each seat is a little panel which translates it into english. And its neat only has about 30 degrees of view so it doesnt disturb others around you 😉
