I used to do that all the time when I was a child. I never took novocaine!! Didn't even hurt afterwards. I had a few done in the same day too.

My great uncle, who was a pediatrician, didn't believe in pain medication. I had to get a piece of metal removed from my toe and tissue had formed around it...I passed out from the pain. Maybe your dentist is an old guy from the era of traditional practice.

When I was younger I think I had 2 cavities filled with just novocain (these were not adult teeth), but then I got a cavity in a permanent adult molar, and I had to get novocain, and nitrous oxide. The nitrous oxide was one of the weirdest feelings, or lack thereof, of my life.

I don't think I could sit through that, I've had the dentist start with the drill and still feel the drill but that least he checked with me first and injected more novacaine.

I get nitrous all the time.. i get panic attacks when i go to the dentist so it totally chills me out.. and its weird.. its like you go off in lala land until they say something to you to draw back to the real world. And the drills make music for ya... hahah its such an odd feeling.

I did that. It was a BITCH!

I did that for my last 2 fillings. They were much LESS painful than my previous ones. What I mean by that is, getting a filling done, with no anasthesia, hurts a hell of a lot less than the shots of novacaine themselves did on previous fillings. YMMV.

I've never used novacain before, I have a reaction to most bumbing and anestetic drugs. It's never really an issue unless it's a nasty cavity, which you should have cleared up long before it got that bad. Plus, I'd imagine it must be nice not having the numbing that my mom and sis complain about for 3 hours after the visit.
