Went to my first AA meeting tonight

Like the title says. Went to my first meeting tonight.

I was inspired to go because I've got a good friend who started AA about 3 months ago and they just celebrated 60 days sober.

It got me thinking that I haven't been able to go more than 3 days or so without getting drunk in the last 15 years. I can't tell you how many times I've sworn to stop drinking or getting high and a day or two later I'm back at it.

Here's to sobriety!

Good for you!

Be thinking of ya. Seen some friends go through some tough times and their families worse. AA helped them.

Best wished.

If ya feel like giving in, call me and I'll kick your ass 😉

<--About 3 years in AA. 21 months sober. Had a three day long bender in there, otherwise I'd have almost 3 years.
I literally owe my life to that program.

I appreciate it. I feel happy to have been able to meet people tonight that have the same problems that I have.

Did you have to stand up and say your name and that you have a drinking problem? Or is it just like that in the movies?

The more experienced members did. I was not pressured in any way to say a word if I didn't want to.

good luck. is posting that you went one of the "steps" 😛

No, not at all. I just wanted to rush home and tell ATOT what I did tonight. It wasn't easy walking in that door, but once I did, it was a huge relief.

Good luck! A lot of the "young guns" here have not lived long enough to have experienced the pain from an addiction. I wish you the best of luck. :avion bottled water

I can't remember a word that was said at the first meeting I went to. All I knew was "I found it". I spent 27 years drunk and my record was 8 days without a drink once I knew I needed to quit. I knew I needed to quit after the first 10 or 15 years 🙂
It took a long time and a lot of work, but I'm finally in pretty good shape.
I wish you the best of luck, and if you have any questions at all, give me a holler.

I quit drinking years ago about 10....went on a massive binger the night before then just quit next day...I had some friends in AA whom I didnt know belonged and I went to a few meeting and ended up staying a year mainly for friendship and support( went through a nasty divorce) and even had the thought of ending it all.

Thanks Shilala. It's been very difficult to even allow myself to admit anything and like I said, once I made the decision to go and check it out and find a meeting and walk in the door, I knew I was in the right place. Luckily I haven't gotten any DUI's, been arrested or anything else that so many people have been through.

Good luck dude. I've actually been through it myself...it's tough especially when so many of your friends drink as well but it's definitely worth it 🙂

Congrad's I wish you the best of luck

 <------Odoul's (probably not till your sober for a while tho 😉 )
