Call Apple Up. I had a friend who worked tech support for Apple over the phone and they would always give a 1 time exception for repairs or replacements especially if it was JUST out of warranty. They don't want to risk losing a customer. Apple has very good customer support and that's mainly what you pay for.

Surely you jest...EVERYONE gets their phone repaired for free at an Apple store...at least that's what everyone says:colbert:

And there's a ton of times a little light comes in handy, just not nearly enough to justify carrying around a dedicated flash light when the LED on your phone works so well...well the one on SOME of our phones😉

They wouldn't replace my iPhone 4 for free because it was out of warranty. Everyone around me said, "Oh, they'll probably replace it for free because they're Apple!"

Nope... Guy said, "It's $150 to replace it or $60 to replace the camera."

What was the problem? The LED light only works in the camera app when taking pictures. It won't work in movies or in any flashlight apps. Traditional restore and the other kind of restore both wouldn't fix it. Many of you may think that light is not important but it is if you don't have a flashlight on you at all times... I don't even own a flashlight. 🙁

Non mi piace.

All stories about the great Apple service at their store have an actual or implied YMMV.

Be completely truthful, hope for the best, but expect nothing. That way you are never disappointed and sometimes are pleasantly surprised.

They won't replace a phone that's out of warranty, unbelievable. How do they survive on that business model?

My Samsung Galaxy Nexus is a tremendous flashlight.

I use it to look for things hidden behind speakers or desks, or to look around the basement.

Sometimes I end up somewhere that I want to light up with a flashlight, but I don't have one on me, and otherwise I have to go dig up the flashlight. Wait, I have one in my pocket. Hmm, it's just as bright up-close as one of those average mini-mag LEDs? (cheap ones, at least).

For dedicated flashlight purposes, I have in mind certain flashlight types and like those for tromping through the woods at night (not that I enjoy this or do it regularly).

If you cannot imagine how practical a strong phone flashlight actually ends up being, then I'm not even going to bother.
If I know I need a powerful, dedicated flashlight, I get one. I sometimes find myself in need of a handy, portable, bright light, and my phone allows me to not fetch a flashlight proper. And I still find what I need, so apparently it works.

The SGN has the brightest LED I've had on a phone.

Too late now but if you had bought the Applecare(eBay for like $30) and you would have been in and out of there with a replacement in ten minutes.

I don't have anything else to compare to, but one of the most impressive things about my iphone4 when I first got it was the brightness of it's LED flash. These things are insane. It'll come close to lighting up a small room (at least to point of being able to find what you need). It's amazing to me how such a little thing can produce such brilliant output. (not being an apple schlobber here...just saying LED flashes in general).

Guys... it's like the saying photographers have, "The best camera is one that's with you." It's like that with the flashlight... the best flashlight is the one that's with you. I don't want to haul a flashlight around everywhere when that fucking LED is insanely bright and would work for most of the purposes I'd have. I'm not trying to illuminate the god damn world.

+1 to the use of phone LED as flashlight.

I use it all the time because my phone is always in my pocket. Sure a dedicated light is better but I don't carry a flashlight everywhere I go. I even added a flashlight button to my lock screen on my Android phone so I don't have to try to find the app.

- Kid knocks something under the couch.
- Coming home late, forgot to leave porch light on, and can barely see the lock.
- Get the mail at night and don't want to blindly stick my hand into possibly spider infested mail box.

Just reach for phone, flick up on my lock screen rotary, and insta-light.

Except that yours DOESN'T work for your purposes, so it's time to carry one that does.

Hmm I need to get Apple to do something about my 4S. I'm tired of having my data connection stop working randomly. :|

Also, I don't know about you, but I keep flashlights in certain places so I can use them. I have one in my kitchen, computer room, bedroom, living room and my car.
