Went to an Evanescence/Cold/Revis concert last night...

The bands rocked, especially Cold and Evanescence! The crowd was fairly dead though, even down in what would be a mosh pit area at any other concert. Several times the lead singer of Evanescence said "come on, get up, this is a rock concert!" and the crowd just effectively went "mooooooooo". At the end the bassist and one of the electric guitarists broke their guitars and tossed the pieces into the crowd.

One weird thing I noticed though, while Evanescence was on I could hear another female voice singing sometimes and there was a keyboard in several of the songs. Neither another person or a keyboard was anywhere to be seen though. Have they played with recorded tracks at other concerts?

Nothing worse than a dead crowd, and it is highly likely some of the music you heard was recorded. Happens a lot.

They were probably playing with a DAT running or something.

The kids would be shocked if the live version didn't sound like what they're used to hearing on the radio.

lol

They play along to a cd/dat.
you'll notice most bands like evanescence/linkin park that have extra sampling/recording/backup vocals play to a metronome live. look for the ear monitors.
Plus this gives the singers a time to rest while performing... they can sing the easier of 2 harmonies and conserve energy.

pretty lame.
to me the point of going to a show is to hear the song performed live, not exactly as i hear it on the radio or CD.
but its not suprising that these bands like linkin park do this, since they lack whats it called.....oh yeah. talent.

Its actually harder to play along to a metronome. most people would prefer the song to sound exactly like the cd. the girl from evanescence is one of the best singers on mtv today. most 'singers' can't sound like they do on the CD without heavy vocal processing, so when you hear them live it might as well be a different person. (e.g. the used, linkin park, blink 182)

I've seen Cold in concert. Not impressed. At all. Could have been poor sound mixing though. The singers voice was just a muddled blur and was lost with the bass.

I would imaging that Revis would be good live though. They just have that type of sound that seems like it would play out well live.

Lame because they can't sing 2 different melodies at the same time? Can you?

Linkin Park does this because of a heavy use of effects and layers to their music. It would be impossible for their singer(s) to vocalize all the layers. The use of effects and mixing is what makes their music interesting.

linkin park is great live, and by no means do they conserve energy. both times I have seem them, they could barely talk as they got off the stage due to exhaustion.

Did Cold play the song "Suffocate"?

If so, did the lead of Evanescence step in to sing the femal vocals?

That would be one of the coolest things...

This was the Nintendo Fusion tour, right? Was Nintendo there giving free stuff away by chance?

I saw Revis and Evanescense in Orlando for the MTV Hard Rock Live taping. I had never heard of Revis before, but I bought their CD after the show. I liked Revis better than Evanescence, but Revis was better live than they are on their album.

This is exactly why singers take every opportunity to conserve energy. being a singer is exhausting. And I've seen many videos of them playing live and they switch off mostly, so there's a lot of time to rest. also, resting/conserving energy doesn't equate to sitting down, there are many ways, like singing differently.

What'd you expect? This is the Nebraska State Fair for crying out lout. 😛 This is one of the reasons I fear for our new convention center/arena. We sure as hell had better get some good concerts and I'll pissed if the crowds don't get into it.

I can picture it now, two-three people out of a sold out show actually rocking out while everyone else just stands around like zombies...... Or cows, to quote your example. 😀

their live video's seem pretty lame. i mean christ, their guitarist plays on stage with headphones on. and he just stands there. and plays. LAME

gimme some Air Morello up in that biatch!

Revis' hometown is where I live now and they're always being played on the radio and stuff. Their manager or producer pushed demo cds on me one night at work when he came in to pay his bill. They suck.
