I went to a lecture put on by Justin Hall from gamers.com (until last week when he got laid off
). He's done some stuff for firingsquad and a crapload of other publications too. Anyways the lecture was put on by the Canadian Film Centre (Norman Jewison's baby) so since my brother's alumni he knew about it, and I'm glad he did.
This guy rocked. He talked about the videogame industry in general and where it's headed. I've never seen a gamer with such a profound ability to lead an audience through a topic. He's funny as hell and smart as hell to boot - the ultimate combination for getting your message across. Heck, he even invited everybody to a bar afterwards for some drinks - would've gone but I'm up late prepping for some lab and tutorials.
If he ever puts on a lecture near your neck of the woods I'd definitely check him out. And he pretty much did this for free as the only payment he received was a plane ticket to/from Toronto and a couple nights in a HoJo.
