I was having lots of trouble with XP so I decided to go back to 2k. So I refomatted my drive that had XP on it and left my other drive(with all my files on it)alone. So I installed 2k with no problems. Went to open my "my documents" folder(the one of my other drive, not the one on the desktop)and I couldnt do it. So I figured out how to take ownership of the folder in the securty tab so I could open the folder and look around. But now when I go to open a document, a movie, or an mp3 I get a smilar error. Basically telling me that access is denied. How can i get my files back? please help.
thanks,
-doug

Taking ownership is only half of what you need to do.
Make sure to add in your account on the security page and give yourself full control permissions.
Remove and add back in the System account with full control as well, as technically speaking, it is a different system now that the OS has changed.

Make sure you check the box that says propogate to all child objects or something like that. There's a box that basically means take ownership of everything under this folder. I'd check right now, but don't want to reboot.
