okay i have my desktop and my laptop on my network.
just got broadband installed coming from using an apartment complex ethernet connection. when the install tech was here my laptop was only in my new apartment so we checked the connection on it.
worked fine..... laptop is the only one of my computers that work off this cable modem. I am pretty sure there was no software configuration other then the ordinary that is used to operate a network (that I had installed before)
i tried to plug the cable modems network cable directly to my desktop and the first day i got intermittent(sp) connection. now i get no page loads and no response from anyhthing. I ping the IP that I get and it gets a respones but when i try and renew the IP I cannot get anything back.
Using my router I cannot get an IP on the routers setup page (linksys)
my notebook works perfectly fine off the cable modem.
all lights flash and status looks fine from my desktop but nothing loads. The main problem ive noticed is that I cannot renew the IP in ipconfig.
no idea.
I was going ot try my pci nic tomrorow becasue ive troubleshot everything else there is imaginable.
notebook is running xp home and desktop is xp professional.
anything i would need to change coming from a regular apartment complex ethernet connected network to a cable modem network?
