Its really weird and only happens to Norton AV, whenever I startup now a blue screen pops up and it says im extremely low on memory and that NAV won't work properly. I'm running Win98SE, could that be the problem? the rest of my computer is:

AMD XP 1700+
Epox 8kha+
256 Crucial 2100DDR
512 Crucial 2100DDR

Yes. Sorry I don't have time to explain. Others will though.

98se runs better with 256mb of memory. At least that has been my experience. When I have used 384 or 512 I have had some minor stability problems. Going back to 256 fixed them instantly. You might find that some amount above 256 will work for you but that seems to be the majic number for both of my rigs. The article mentioned above should explain why you are having the problem.

My experience was the complete opposite. Went from 1 stick of 128M to 2 sticks for a total of 256M (2 different brands) = Crashes & Freezes. Went back to original 128M stick, problem solved. My problem was more hardware related though.
Right now I have 512 in my box running 98SE (don't laugh :frown: ran out of funds) w/o a prob.

I ran 98SE for months with 512 MB, never had a single problem. Going over 512 MB is asking for trouble on any 9x kernel though.

Go to 2K/XP Pro, you'll never look back.
