I love Wendy's spicy chicken combo. That is very much what I ordered. The chilli is ok, it is really depend on the locations, some are good, some are 'meh'.

I worked at Wendy's for a few months when I was 16 or so. I think the way they make the chili may differ, since they are franchises. When I worked there, yes, the hamburger patties that were not nice looking or burned were kept in a bin. They were used for chili. But we didn't mix the chili together, nor did we boil the meat. We just took the patties out and chopped them and added them to the chili. Nothing gross, really. Even after working there I would still eat the chili.

Already cooked rice...

I didn't know rice was comparable to meat now. I don't remember hearing of a bunch of food poisoning cases from rice.
Also the fried rice is made immediately after cooking it. You can't make rice then come back a week later and make the fried rice.

yeap. i remember a buddy telling me that when we were in high school.

no big deal. meat that is kept in a fridge a day or two is not going to be bad. its pefect for the chili.

I don't care for it though. it shouldn't have beans.

What do you think all restaurants do? what do you think fried rice originally was? The concept of making day old food into something else is not new.

This.

You people worry too much. First off it is fast food, so your food quality expectations should plummet on that point alone.

Second, nothing wrong with reusing leftover food to make new dishes. I eat leftovers pretty regularly. The best lasagna for example is the next day. Same with thanksgiving leftovers.

Um what? The whole point of fried rice is finding some way to use the old rice from days before. Freshly cooked rice is usually too soft/sticky for fried rice.

quoted for truth. I pity the fools who try to fry fresh rice. that shit just sticks and burns at the bottom of the pan.

the quality of Wendy's Chili (while most of the time awesome) varies from location to location in my experience.

Anyways the A.K. Chili from Dinosaur BBQ is awesome (had it in Syracuse, NY). Too bad the NYC Dinosaur BBQ doesn't have it.

Reminds me of the stories Bourdain tells of his time as the buffet cook at the Rainbow Room in NYC, only not nearly as bad.

Actually, ceterus paribus, Wendy's should be commended. Not only is it good business sense, but with all the hunger in the world do we really want them wasting food for no good reason?

The secret of making the chili even better is using it as a dipping sauce for their french fries.

They have the best french fries of the main fast food restaurants so with this epic goodness plus a original frosty you are set for a bit.

So unless you order the awesome spicy chicken sandwich this is the way to go when you eat here.

My mom makes the best turkey pot pie with leftover thanksgiving turkey and gravy, and she usually makes it several days later. She also has a breakfast souffle recipe that specifically calls for stale bread. It's alllll good.

????? You sure can. You also know that the meat, eggs, etc in fried rice isn't freshly cooked, right?

the eggs are fresh. you crack them into the wok and fry them in the rice mix. as for the meat, most places will use the same meat they have for their other dishes, since there usually isnt any left over from the day before. i worked for a chinese restaurant for a few years, learned how to cook a lot from that family. and you can fry freshly cooked rice, it just takes a bit more attention than the older rice. most places ive seen fry up a ton of rice without any veggies, meat or egg and use that as a base for their fried rice dishes.

as for wendys chili, i usually think its too sweet so i dont get it. but, ive tried a few bowls where a friend of mine worked when we were just out of HS and he made rockin chili. beans are good in chili. beef will last a few days in a fridge, no issue there. reuse is a good thing.

I've heard this rumour before. Not sure how true it is. In most fast food places I've been to that serve soup, it comes ready-made in sealed bags. They just dump it into the pot and heat it up. It's no shock though that a restaurant is cutting corners. Food costs money so they don't want to waste anything if it's still okay. As long as it's being refrigerated.

Pro tip: make a big batch of chili at home, freeze it into containers, then just heat at work. That way, you know exactly what you're getting.

Wendy's fries are good, but only so long as they are hot out of the fryer. If you get Wendy's fries that have been sitting for any amount of time they will be limp, soggy, and nasty.

my understanding is the meat pieces are fully cooked beef patties that were broken or burned then thrown into the chili. the only issue is if it was left in the fridge for too long, if its not frozen. but that goes for anything.

Yesterday's beef? Who cares about that? The bigger issue is that they have beans in their chili.

Real chili doesn't have beans.
