I remember drooling over those 45gb 75gxp drives when they were the hot item. I really am amazed that the drive has lasted as long as it did.

I'm guessing that you're not getting full click of death since you have access, but you've developed at least one bad sector on that file in paticular, and possibly others on other critical windows files.

You've known it was due for failure for quite some time now, but you can't say you didn't get your $190's worth out of it.

Got a new HDD. Thanks, RossMAN, for the awesome deal! :D

It's a Maxtor D740X-6L. The fluid bearing model. :)

Not the best out there, but it's better/faster than my current drives by a generation or 2.

Oh yeah, I still don't know if the 75GXP is still under warranty. Do they go by the sales receipt(when you bought it), or the date of manufacture on the drive?

It's still under warranty by the receipt date, but is expired by the manufacture date.

So have you installed the Maxtor yet?

You're welcome and I'm glad I was able to help you out :)

my 30gig 75gxp just died like a month ago. actually it was working but kept getting bad sectors and their diagnostic program declared it defective. warranty runs out sometime in november, need to rma it and hopefully get a new one for replacement.
