welp comcast came to install cable modem, troubles. I knew it.... read inside, need advice

They restructed my whole comlpex to get comcast service from the old cable service. So they assure me i can get internet now. The guy comes out today, the 2 new jacks they installed the other day, do not work. He goes outside to check and he says they don't have any DROPS to it... ? He said there are 2 jacks for drops, and there's nothing there. He said they will come mon-tues to finish it. Pisses me off cause they said it was done and defeats the whole purpose of him even coming out.

Secondly, he said the exisitng cable that works, is to weak for the cable modem. Now my question.. When he left I tried pluggin the old line in for the hell of it. The cable modem Blinks power on and off faintly, pc line and cable, very faintly. I hit the reset button on the back of the cable modem, all lights come in, then goes back to blinking power light, and a message appears "a network cable is unplugged" in windows... Now the network cable from the modem to the NIC is plugged in, so why the hell is it saying that?

Is this all cause the cable line in my house IS to weak?? Not sure why the power would keep blinking on and off.

I'm really pissed here, on my 56k.
 
no thats called your cable is down and i assume you are using 2k or xp....your cable isnt gonna work and is 2-3 days really gonna matter that much i mean think how long it took you to go from 12-18 it seems like a second so i am sure 2-3 days isnt gonna kill you be glad you even have 56k some only have 14.4!!!!!!!

The cable has to be good to get a signal on your cable modem. The power light flashes on the modem just as a diagnostic thing to tell you it ain't got no connection to the Mother Ship. They will run two new drops (cables terminating at your box) to ensure a solid cable, thus ensuring a solid signal to your modem. They'll run it through a tap, which will either boost the signal or even (if the signal is too strong) decrease the signal going to the modem.

ok, so the power light blinking on and off, and the other lights not being on, is normal? No coax cable is attached to it, but i still thought it was odd to have power light blinking on and off. When we hooked the older coaxcable jack to it, nothing. He said we werer -16 i believe and signal was way to weak.


So when they install the new DROPS and i plug in from the new jack, it should do a light configuration sort of thing automatically?

ALSO, you mention about getting a stronger signal. wouldnt the CABLE light be the thing looking for the signal, not the power light blinking on and off?
 
I have an RCA cable modem from Comcast. When there is no cable connected to it, the lights go through a cycle. The power light on top will flash for about 30 seconds by itself. Then the LINK light below it will flash for 15 seconds along with the power light. Then the activity light will start blinking along with the other two. Then they all 3 blink for about 4 minutes, then the cycle starts over again. Different modems do different things... It's a mystery that only the cable guy knows the answer to.
