I tried logging into my Wells Fargo account yesterday to check my balance after it stopped working in Mint. It gave me a message saying my account was trying to be logged into from somewhere else and that I needed to call a number to restore access. Long story short, I call them, and they say I can't use Mint or any other site besides WellsFargo.com

Has anyone else experienced this yet? I had been using Mint to access WF since it's has came out just fine. I'm thinking about canceling my account if it I lose access again.

LOL @ Mint. No way in hell I would trust all my financial info to 1 site. That's just asking for butt rape if their servers got compromised.

WF is one of two banks I use and Ive never heard of Mint. Perhaps you should contact Mint. With all the hacker attacks and now stealing of secure site information, it wouldnt surprise me to see banks disallow 3rd party logins.

You think it's more likely that Mint will get compromised rather than the bank itself?

Think of it this way....

Now you have Mint AND Wells Fargo as potential targets. So there is just more surface area to attack.

seeing as how the government used some of the same security/encryption stuff that wells fargo implemented, plus the fact that it was one of the first banks to do online banking, yes i trust wf.com over mint.

Why would a hacker want just your WF information when they can get all your financial information from one website? Got em!

You guys don't understand how mint works. Mint does NOT store any of your personal information in house. It's all stored in highly secured databases outsourced to the SAME companies major banks store their information.

Read http://www.mmhabits.com/mint-review-how-secure-is-it/ for more information.

The reply to that article says it all

"The writer of this article has over-simplified the security risks.
Just because they use Yodlee doesn?t mean it?s secure. The truth
is, your login information traverses Mint systems. Therefore, Mint
employees and contractors COULD gain access to your information."

Basically what is happening is that Mint is sending your login information to Yodlee, Yodlee is sending that information back. It then goes out and grabs your financial information based on what Yodlee provides and then retrieves your financial data. All that back and forth cannot be as secure as WF generating your information directly from the login to their servers.

Someone also mentioned that Mint uses email addresses for the user name!!!! How freaking secure is that???

All of that isn't to say it isn't secure, but it would seem to be that they have to send a lot more data to multiple sources to gather information than a bank would directly.

Something is fundamentally wrong with us if we've become too lazy to bookmark a few websites and instead use third party services to capture all logins for various online banks.

Probably a steady decline in IQ worldwide.

I have every url, username, and password memorized, but aggregating that into one screen is much easier. I don't want to open up a calculator or excel every time I need to run some finances. I guess I should just memorize how much I spend and how much I make as that would be less lazy,

If anything, using Mint makes me more aware of my Finances. I check Mint daily at a minimum. With the new Iphone app, forget about it.

Hmm same thing happened to me (Yodlee), yesterday/ today. I had a suspicion it was that so I deactivated Wells Fargo on there for now. The CSR didn't tell me specific details on what happened though.

I fuckin hate wells fargo.

Why?

For not destroying itself with sub-prime mortgages like those institutions getting bailed out atm?

No. For personal reasons. They have the worst customer service I have ever had to deal with from any lender.
