There is a Avis rent a car in Fort Lee right over the bridge. It isn't too hard to get to from Manhattan.

I'll try them later tonight. Both Hertz and Avis are booked solid in Manhattan and Newark for the holiday. My alternative is to take the bus home, but we have a 3 month old kitten that we were going to bring to MD with us. Just poor planning on my part.

They don't allow kittens on the bus?

According to Greyhound's website, no.

You can take the kitten on the bus, depending on the bus line. I usually take the Washington Deluxe between DC and NY and I've seen people take pets on as long as they're in a cage

avis in jersey city, nj has cars available for daily rates of around $40-$50.

Doubletree Club Suites - Lobby - JC3

i checked a map and that is right near the newport center mall which is reachable via the path train from WTC or Herald Square.

Where are your relatives? I'm sure you could easily get a rental in Queens, or Brooklyn, Bronx or even Staten Island.

Yes. Take the A train to 175th. You can take any bus across and get off on the other side of the bridge. There is a mall right across the street from the stop which has a Burger King. Its right there.

;sigh; NY's subway system pwns Boston's T ;sigh;

NY's subway system owns practically everyone's. How many systems are there that run 24/7? Not even Tokyo's subway system runs 24/7.
