Well this is darned annoying..

I've been steadily increasing my SETI production lately and yet I'm still slipping down the ladder. :disgust:

Currently, I'm in 1,614th place and even with almost 30 WUs/day I'm still losing an average of one position per day.. I guess the only thing I can do is keep increasing the daily output. 😉

Yes I have noticed your drop in positions. I never would of thought that I could catch you.:Q

But after I catch and pass OhioDude I figure that I will start gunning for you.😀

Keep crunching.....

Oh gee.. something else to look forward to...

Get in line, I'm gunning for NWM myself too 😉😛

NWM <-- *hint* *hint* 😛

Rich, I noticed the same problem lately. I worked my way up to #561 about 6 weeks ago, now I'm down to 575.

Check here and you can see the kind of high numbers others are turning out recently.

😉 🙂 😉 !!!!!!!!!

:Q

Anyone remember that NWM is a lifetime honorary member of The Federation! :Q

😀

If you think that's bad according to setiatwork at our current pace I will catch you in just 1,636.8 days 🙂

That's weird.. I was looking at the SetiAtWork link and noticed some odd stats around your area of the Top 1K there JW:

499) 0 0 0 0 0 -7966 0 49602 -1138.0
572) 65 61 55 60 56 -4696 0 44867 -628.4
591) 6 7 6 7 6 -936 0 43925 -129.1

The user names are blank and there are large negative numbers.. do these represent glitches in the stats? Cheaters? Something else? 😕

I've wondered about the possibility of cheating for a while now. At my highest I was up to 152 in the world. That was a while ago and before I switched some of my power over to help out the DF project. Get this... Depsite the fact that I was producting 150 WU's per day and increased my output to about 175 WU's per day I *fell* down the chart to around 162! :Q

Why do I bring up the cheating question? Well, I've been doing SETI for well over 3 years and I was climbing at a steady rate. Of course the higher you climb the slower it gets but in all that time I never fell backwards, especially not 10 spots over a short period.

Like I said in a PM to Rich, as long as we keep BBR behind us and pass some more teams ahead of us I'll be happy. 🙂

That doesn't look like cheaters to me. Looks like someone with a blank name above those members revealed their name. Thus all the black names would switch up a a number from #3 to #2 and so on giving the apearance that the member lost WUs when actually it is a totally different member.

Huh?? 😕

Maybe it's just me and I need another cup of coffee, but I didn't follow that at all.. no more so after the 3rd reading than the 1st.. 🙁

I think Baldy18 is referring to the way SetiTEAM accounts for BLANK NAMES. SetiTEAM assigns artificial numbers by giving #1 to the BLANK NAME with the largest number of WUS and so forth down the line. If you look at the Individual Stats on the S@H Servers you will see the BLANK NAMES without any notation.

I see how the BLANK NAMES numbered by SetiTEAM would change by someone allowing their name to be seen or hidden but I don't see how that would have any effect on the overall rankings.

Okay, looks like we need a demonstration. Say there are three blank-named S@H users. SETI@Home stores them like this:

157 ___ 4000
256 ___ 3000
365 ___ 2000

But when SETI@Work gets this, since it doesn't have e-mails to distinguish them, it numbers the blanks by rank:

157 ___ (1) 4000
256 ___ (2) 3000
365 ___ (3) 2000

Now let's say the user ranked #157 decides to change his name. SETI displays it like this:

157 DrawingABlank 4000
256 ___ 3000
365 ___ 2000

But when SETI@Work gets this, it numbers the blanks, and only the blanks, by rank (though it also happens to do this with identical names, so you might see this effect if a Joe changes his name):

157 DrawingABlank 4000
256 ___ (1) 3000
365 ___ (2) 2000

So now the user ranked 256 is the first blank. But that means "___ (1)" went from 4000WU to 3000WU, a loss of 1000 WU according to SETI@Work, even though nothing really happened. 🙂
