I think I really, definitely, DESPERATELY need a new job. Like, now.

After:
Car payment
Rent
Internet

and NOTHING ELSE, I'm literally dead broke. That's $0 left over to eat, enjoy life, or buy condoms. And to top this off, my boss has this REALLY bad habit of NOT TELLING US when we're going to be closed... So I can't plan ahead for my missed hours more than 9 hours (I found out just a few hours ago that we're closed tommorrow - which throws me off by a HORRIFYINGLY large percentage)

I can't see how this would be possible at all if my dad didn't pay for gas and insurance for me. And yet, I have coworkers who seem able to live VERY well on the same pay rate I'm at ($6.75 an hour) and work SIGNIFICANTLY less than I do.

Frankly, I'm not aware of a single job (performed by a legal US citizen) that makes $6.75 an hour other than my own. McBurgerFlippers make more than me. Gas station attendants make more than me. Cashiers at Walmart make more than me.... And my job is a god damned technical position. Other employers in the area pay upwards of $20/hr for fewer duties - which would be AWESOME, if they were hiring. Which they aren't. Ever.

what do u do...and how can you not get a better paying job...i'm 20 and in college and make more than 2x that and i have benefits too. not trying to brag...just saying you should be able to a lot better than that.

sell your car and buy something you can afford.

I put on freightloads of mileage - buying an older, higher mileage car would simply result in needing to buy cars much more frequently. As it stands, life expectancy on this car is like, 1/5th of the time it's going to take me to pay it off.

My title is "Consultant." Which is funny, because I can't remember the last time I was consulted about anything. At times, I work the helldesk, but primarily these days, I'm a network and server support technician.

Time to eliminate the internet.

I can't - I'd immediately proceed to fail out of college because a ridiculous percentage of my grade is based on various internet-related services.

if it helps, noobs where i work get 6 an hour

but they just put numbered tickets on garments and check people out.

If McBurgerFlippers pays more than your current job, maybe you should be re-evaluating your job situation. Either go work there, or go work anywhere else. 😵

your definately underpaid if you have to have any sort of skills or prior knowledge for your position...and the fact that you could make more working fast food

Do you work in 1 location(don't go from various sites)? Do you live close to work if you do? Is their Public Transportation available? Yes, I'm advocating ditching the car if you can.

You make 6.75/hr?

<nelson>HA-HA!</nelson>

EDIT: Oh yeah, don't be a dunce, get a new job. From the sound of your "title" you are worth more, unless you're padding it.

move home, save on rent, and less mileage!

I'm moving OUT of home to save on mileage, because it's quickly breaking my dad's back paying for all that gas.

The way I see it, it's better if I drown in debt trying to get off the ground than my entire family doing the same for the same reason - and if this girl is crazy enough to stay on when ****** starts looking real bad in a few months, I'm probably set for life in that respect, anyway.

Yes, only one location. Yes, the place I'm moving to is fairly close to work. Yes, there is public transportation. But I don't have THREE HOURS each way to deal with the 4 transfers (with VERY long waits at each) each way - plus the fact that they only operate from 12hrs/day (7-7) and don't service the outlying areas that my sanity depends on. And I'd love to walk - if they believed in sidewalks and crosswalks. But Pennsylvania has never heard of such things.

They gave me my title - and it's insanely padded. Essentially, it comes down to ground-level grunt IT work. Which is still worth WAY more than $6.75.
