Well, they brought the Call of Duty name back for Modern Warfare 2

Fourzerotwo just tweeted this pic up of the Modern Warfare 2 boxes 'straight off the press' and you'll notice the Call of Duty logo emblazoned on there as well.

Probably has alot to do with a survey that said that Modern Warfare 2 loses "brand awareness" without the Call of Duty name attached to it.

man that is a sexy box. i agree with the surveys though - i bought into the first modern warfare title because it was a call of duty game. it makes sense to keep things congruent by keeping call of duty in the title. really looking forward to this. played cod4mw on the ps3; looking forward to xbl multiplay on mw2!

Why the hell is the PC version of this game pre-ordering at $59.99? Are we dragging the PC into the $59.99 retail price now too? I'm hoping that experiment fails.

Eh, looks pretty boring to me compared to CoD4. Doesn't matter though as the game itself will be fantastic. A drunk infant could draw the box art for all I care and it won't effect how excited I am for it.

at all retailers or just 1? could be a mistake or guess if they don't know the actual price yet?

not sure why they would want to remove the CoD title, especially with the history of success behind it.

i wish they would've just dropped the CoD name and tried to move forward. that franchise has been milked to death. when all you can say is 'at least the even numbered games don't suck,' i think it's time to head in a new direction.

Never gonna happen. Activision's entire strategy right now is to milk franchises forever.

Good move for them, they would have lost a bunch of monies for dropping the best known part of the name.

Can't decide... Xbox 360 version or PC version... or Steam version...

GTX 260 means what to this game?

nope. I'm certainly not... I'm sure I'll get it eventually... Probably on craigslist or ebay, like I did CoD4 and WaW. Nothing against the games personally, but I don't really get all the fuss either.

Overhyped shooter with a mediocre storyline and mediocre multiplayer... but I'll probably still get it for PC :)

Is it just me or is there anyone else who thought CoD1 and CoD2 were awesome, but lost complete interest when CoD4 came out?

Theyve been milked for sure, but not to death. I believe the word the CEO used was "exploit". But the games still rock. Cod 3 and 5 arent quite the same level of quality as CoD 1 2 and 4, but theyre still damn good games. World at War multiplayer still has me hooked (along with 120k other people each night).

I'm glad they put the CoD name back on. I thought they might try to branch off the series entirely, where we'd get both a new historical CoD and also a MW each year. That would be waaaay overkill.

Well 5 is really 4.5 since it's just a reskinned 4.

I have 1 FPS for my PS3, Bioshock. I have 1 FPS for my PC, the original Ghost Recon. To me all the FPS are the same, especially ones that involve running around shooting a gun. Maybe it's a drug for people.

The flashback sniper mission in CoD4 is one of my favorite FPS segments of all time.

Heh. I wanted to tear my eyes out on the part where you crawled through the grass with all the enemy soldiers and tanks walking by you. It took several tries for me (idiot that I am) to find the correct pattern to avoid being detected.

I had trouble there too. I died the first time, so I just laid down up against the tree. I got killed again, just because I looked to the right a little. So next try, I laid there against the tree, and didn't even look, just put the controller down and waited. Got up too soon and got nailed again. Next try I waited until the sounds started to get pretty far behind me (yet another time where surround sound is useful).

I had trouble with almost every section of getting to the extraction point as well. One of the reasons I liked it so much, you needed the right strategy and tactics, and you had to be fast and accurate with your shooting.

Can't stand the entire series. Fails on every front for me. But I agree about it losing brand awareness without CoD on the cover. It's a good change.
