Well there you have it. Evolution has officially been debunked.

Key word: religion.

If you read my posts, I praise spirituality. I don't have it, but I accept it and see there are strengths to the concept.

I don't want to quote the whole thing and clog up the thread.

I read it all. I read a lot of your posts, you make good points. I know how you feel about religion from previous posts. You bring up a lot of points of interest. If we evolved from something show it to me, I would like to see it. I want to see the evolution, not something postulated that happened over billions of years.

Of course, it's how religion propagates. If I told you unicorns existed in such a way as you thought I was serious, you'd think I was insane. But if I had told you that when you were 3, and pounded it into your head every day with a weekly trip to a building devoted to unicorns, your only question would be how can anyone not see the truth of Unicornianism.

Sig worthy.

Your ideas intrigue me. Tell me more about Unicornianism.

If you want to see it, you need only look a little bit and you'll find plenty of evidence.

Holy crap. That's terrible.

Yes, I'm religious. However, that is just wrong on so many levels. People who say the bible is the absolute word of god need to take a history lesson on where the bible came from. I'm not saying it isn't full of good stuff, but my goodness, it isn't the history book of the universe. Does the bible mention a guy name Jethro who lived during before Abraham? No. Does that mean he couldn't have existed? According to these whack jobs it does...

The human is no more complex than any other animal. Do you really grasp what "billions of years" really stands for?

Thank you for the link.

Yes, I understand and grasp "billions of years". According to the video, 3.5 billion years to walk on land, then only 20 million years from ape to human.

I am reading the link from Cerpin Taxt which has some good stuff in it.

"Apes" are far more similar to humans than "creationists" would like to think. Most don't like to think that we evolved from a common ancestor thinking that we are miles apart but chimpanzees for example are very very close to humans!

The biggest problem we have is that people have a complete and mutual lack of understanding between each other...

From the ATOT atheist's POV, these silly creationists are simply ignoring the evidence that is there. They're deliberately sticking their heads in the sand... etc etc, when the fact is that evolution has a shitton of evidence.

For the doubters I know I just stated that... but seriously, look here:
http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/comdesc/
The website also directly addresses several of the most common creationist objections to evolution. It also addresses several common anti-science fallacies like "XXX is just a theory"

That said... it seems pretty obvious right? You just have to look at the "facts" right? Frankly, the average fundamentalist christian has this perception that all ardently dogmatic about their beliefs -- completely deriding anyone who dare say their faith could be wrong. The point is that the fundies completely miss the point that the scientists or atheists are attacking their ignorance of factual evidence and instead take it as an assault on their personal belief system (faith).

Coming from someone who has an engineering background -- I know exactly how strong scientific evidence is -- but you have to remember that most people don't have college-level science educations... most only have a high school science education that does the scientific method no justice. As such, it's much easier to buy into the idea that these atheist, dogmatic, Christian hating scientists really have cooked up this grand anti-God theory of evolution. It certainly doesn't help our case with the intellectual elites at places like Berkeley or some hippy in Seattle starts spouting off about these "dern stoopid christians" and so on.

To wrap it back around to trying to talk to a fundamentalist who's sold on creationism... I think that the barrier you'd have to overcome is the fact that you're not attacking their faith at all but rather it's about looking at what science is and presenting the facts. I know everyone has their set beliefs and no amount of talking will ever persuade anyone this way or that... but if you could somehow show people the fundamental error in the way they are approaching the problem, that is this assumption that science is out to destroy God, I think we could at least get the point of an actual form of mutual understanding.

Edit:
My final qualifier will be that I admit, I am generalizing here... but in my personal experience, all of the creationists I've come across were both scientifically ignorant -- that is no college level science or engineering education -- and also sincerely did believe that the evidence for evolution could be heavily biased by the scientists performing the experiments -- which again loops back to scientific ignorance. My generalization probably is on the most extreme end of the fundamentalist spectrum -- but I think it's worth noting and could be used for a more empathic approach to others.

What is so wrong with getting other people's perspective on things?

I watched a video and did some reading. I bookmarked the reading to do some more later (slow reader).

It's funny because evolution hasn't been proven and those that believe in Darwin's evolution are religious. His bullshit belief is the same as yours.

That is absolutely sickening. Those parents should be ashamed of themselves; they are telling their kids to be ignorant and giving them a horrible understanding of the world around them.

Have you taken any sort of college-level Biology class? You are taking a shit on this thread and shoving your head into a bull's ass at the same time.

Double post.

The whole idea of ignoring someone on a discussion forum makes no sense to me. The whole point is to discuss things with people of varying religions, creeds, upbringings, etc.

To ignore someone because they are religious, or liberal, or republican.. is doing yourself no favors, IMO.

:hmm:
