Well the 6600's and 6700's appear to be a big no show....

If you have an Athlon 3800 with a 7800 GTX, you can be patient...

If you're like me and have an ancient 1.9 Willamette P4, not so much... :)

I hope that they can actually get some decent OCs out of nF590.

nF4 for Intel was a joke, & i hope nF5 isn't the same.

You get tons of features with nF5, & i'd actually prefer that to 975/965, but if it's a crap OCer like i suspect, it's not good for me :(

I'm waiting myself but for NF chipset boards to come out. Gotsta have SLI.

There are plenty of proud owners of E6600 and E6700's right now. I don't think they describe their CPU's as paper. LOL.

Please point us to the retailers with those in stock

While technically not a paper launch, it could very well be called one, since very cleverly, Intel hasn't been able to ship anything above the E6400 in any half decent quantity, if at all.
(Aside from the X6800, of course.)

It's not even the 7th. However there are plenty of C2D owners that have already rec'd orders. (over at XS).

Gee, here's a E6700 in stock. It took me all of 60 seconds to find one.

Why havent you been banned yet? This was no "paper launch, idiot". Only an inexperienced newb would say that, and being that its you, that figures quite well.
It WAS paper launched. Even one of the AT editors agreed.

I think grammar is a virtue: (from 2 sentences)
Core 2 Duo not Core Duo
NForce not Nforce
mother board not mobo
an under not a under

I also think that NewEgg will pull through with at least a few E6600 on Monday but that is pure speculation on my part.

First, they are the same CPUs whether in the retail box or OEM and you can get a better heatsink for $8 from Cooler Master.
Second, I've never killed a CPU in my life and I've taken them down well into the negatives and placed insane voltages on them as well as dropped them, bent pins and even had my cat scratch a P4's IHS so I don't really think that you need more than a DOA warranty.
Third, even if you have a 3 year warranty and it dies after 2 and 1/2 years I doubt that Intel will honor it. They will most likely claim that you did one of the crazy things that I have done (like heavily overvolt or overclock it) regardless of whether or not it is true and you can't really prove a negative such as "I have never overclocked it."

To the OP:

In Europe the E6600 OEM can be found easily. The Boxed version is a bit more difficult but possible. Many stores have it ready for dispatch or pickup.

The price is around 320 euros, add 27% to get the price in dollar.

I took the E6400 road, it is 100 euros less and not worth the difference in performance - like Zebo says, get the cheapest and O/C it.

LOL, he found an OEM one, lol.

Your post implied there are retail (not OEM pls. & thx.) E6600/6700s all over, & you know full well there aren't.

Thanx for playing though.

But it still doesn't make sense to pay more for OEM! and they will honor the warranty if there is no physical damage to the chip.

The whole buying the cheapest & OCing them worked well with A64s since pretty much every A64/Opty maxed out around ~2.8 GHz on air, & most good mobos were able to handily hit a 300 HTT, which meant anyone could get an FX-55/FX-60 for the price of the cheapest A64.

Doesn't work the same way with C2D IMO.

Right now there are like no mobos to choose from, & the low multi on the Allendales coupled with low-ish max FSB on most 965/975 mobos means you can't really do that.

Not saying that 3 GHz isn't impressive, but it's too hit or miss with the E6300/6400 because of the mobo IMO.

Since www.overclockers.co.uk ship them from August the 3th and claim they have pleanty of stock, I hope I'll see them here (Greece) as soon as this week. Otherwise I'll consider ordering from UK

They claim to have it instock but at a very high price. Hopefully this means use retailers will be getting them in over the coarse of the next week.

Its unknown whether they actually have them or not...I have seen many times when they say in stock yet then the shipping takes forever...cause they did not actually have them...they thought their supplier did...i for one dont want to pay that much...hence why I wanted the E6600...better price point and a decent multiplier to have a shot at 4ghz...

I would normally agree, but the E6600 could be a hit or miss also. One can only know by trying.

A BIOS updated made a lot of difference for me. There are some people reporting 400+ on the mobo with some new BETA bios. I guess it can only get better.

My E6400 is running 2 x Prime95 since 4 hours, 3.2GHZ 8 x 400 4-4-4 (2GB OCZ). This is more than 50% O/C. This kind of o/c on "standard" components was last seen with the Celeron 300A and P3 coppermine 500.

I was not lucky in the last 2 years with o/c on the A64, I had a San Diego 3700 clocked to 2.70 and an Opt 170 clocked to 2.5. That was average o/c. And I spent a lot of money on better PSUs, cooling and hq ram.

I used the 100 euros to get a 7950GX2 over a GTX. That brings more for gaming than an E6600 CPU.
