If you have an Athlon 3800 with a 7800 GTX, you can be patient...
If you're like me and have an ancient 1.9 Willamette P4, not so much...

Just grab an E6300 or E6400 to hold you over. They seem to be all over the place.

Wow, I'm glad I decided to wait until november before buying Core 2. Hopefully by then chips will be readily available and the mobos will have all their kinks ironed out. I must say that I don't understand why anyone would buy the motherboard before getting the actual CPU...

Instead of whining you should be shopping for a better reseller.
There are plenty of proud owners of E6600 and E6700's right now. I don't think they describe their CPU's as paper. LOL.
Please point us to the retailers with those in stock
While technically not a paper launch, it could very well be called one, since very cleverly, Intel hasn't been able to ship anything above the E6400 in any half decent quantity, if at all.
(Aside from the X6800, of course.)
It WAS paper launched. Even one of the AT editors agreed.Originally posted by: FelixDeKat

Why havent you been banned yet? This was no "paper launch, idiot". Only an inexperienced newb would say that, and being that its you, that figures quite well.

That's an OEM one. I want a retail box. You know 3 year warranty and all. Heatsink with a fan. Those kind.
I think Newegg will be sucking wind like everyone else.I also think that NewEgg will pull through with at least a few E6600 on Monday but that is pure speculation on my part.

I think grammar is a virtue: (from 2 sentences)
Core 2 Duo not Core Duo
NForce not Nforce
mother board not mobo
an under not a under

Gee, here's a E6700 in stock. It took me all of 60 seconds to find one.

First, they are the same CPUs whether in the retail box or OEM and you can get a better heatsink for $8 from Cooler Master.
Second, I've never killed a CPU in my life and I've taken them down well into the negatives and placed insane voltages on them as well as dropped them, bent pins and even had my cat scratch a P4's IHS so I don't really think that you need more than a DOA warranty.
Third, even if you have a 3 year warranty and it dies after 2 and 1/2 years I doubt that Intel will honor it. They will most likely claim that you did one of the crazy things that I have done (like heavily overvolt or overclock it) regardless of whether or not it is true and you can't really prove a negative such as "I have never overclocked it."

The whole buying the cheapest & OCing them worked well with A64s since pretty much every A64/Opty maxed out around ~2.8 GHz on air, & most good mobos were able to handily hit a 300 HTT, which meant anyone could get an FX-55/FX-60 for the price of the cheapest A64.
Doesn't work the same way with C2D IMO.
Right now there are like no mobos to choose from, & the low multi on the Allendales coupled with low-ish max FSB on most 965/975 mobos means you can't really do that.
Not saying that 3 GHz isn't impressive, but it's too hit or miss with the E6300/6400 because of the mobo IMO.
