Well the 6600's and 6700's appear to be a big no show....

Got the message from my retailer that none of the 6600 and 6700's are in the warehouse so in fact they wont ship on the 7th...Problem is none of the tier one distributors have them yet either...I get a Aug 4th to Sept. 24th ETA...His gut is Mid August...

So to all those fools and I would love to drag your names thru the mudd, but many of us were right...You were dreaming June and early 3Q, but we told you more like August and closer to late 3Q before in masses....

I am ofcourse pissed cause I have all my parts for my E6600, except the chip.....Since he has tried the tier one suppliers and they dont have them I doubt many retail stores will, or in masses....looks like I am waiting...i could have held off on the board, but alas it is too late....

Intel sucks IMO...paper launching idiots...

Just grab an E6300 or E6400 to hold you over. They seem to be all over the place.

I may just do that...and cancel my E6600....Still pisses me off considering INtel launched the fster chips in the reviews and not these slower chips yet look what arrives in masses...

I know, its killer, but lets think about it, this is a big thing for them mabye they want to take baby steps ?

I got an exact date from my computer store of Aug. 28th. He said his supplyer would be shipping the 25th and he'd be recieving 20 of each chip on the 28th, so I preordered.

Im guessing the 28th, hope that makes you feel better :)

Nope...

I am moving in about 1-1/2 weeks and now I am going to be having items shipped to a place I dont live perhaps....I can forward but I dont like that....i may be able to arrange it with Tankguys and get my CC (bankcard) I used changed to mey new address fast enough...It usually takes the morons at USBank a few times to actually get it done...

I'm more concerned about motherboards for overclocking than the CPU themselves. The current favorite (DS3) is buggy as hell and won't even boot properly with my ram (known problem). Since it's the favorite, there aren't many posts about other 965 chipsets, and the 975 chipset motherboards don't go as high FSB wise.

CLUBIT said they had 6700 and will ship out on the 7th..if they were lying to me I will cancel, chargeback, whatever and never order from them again..

Just principle to me. I am not bulding until RD600 is out. But I don't like being BSed just to get my order

I know....

I hear DS3 has issues with my Gskill Ram..basically most ram that runs cas 3 but needs more then 1.9v to do it...

I will have to buy a cheap DDR2 stick to run to boot up board long enough to manually change settings....

Thanks god I have opteron loving to play with...

You got to be kidding me? so every time you have to reset cmos (all the time when OCing) you have to swap out memory?

That looks like a big yes!!! I may RMA the board or the GSKILL...either way I will have this non compatable crap long before I ever get my chip....

Yes. This is because the BIOS default is only to supply 1.8v to the RAM. Many (most) high performance memory needs 2.1V which means the board will fail to POST with a 1.8V setting.

This is but one of the many issues with the DS3, and why I never recommended using it.

Everyone trumps it up as a "value" option. Sure, it is $100 cheaper than say a P5W-DH, but you'll blow that $100 up in smoke with frustration!

Wow, I'm glad I decided to wait until november before buying Core 2. Hopefully by then chips will be readily available and the mobos will have all their kinks ironed out. I must say that I don't understand why anyone would buy the motherboard before getting the actual CPU...

Duvie that has been solved with the latest BIOS rev's that Gigabyte have just released for the DS3, DS4 and DQ6. Not officially on their website but it is official and available to download on XS. Apparently the BIOS now stays up long enough for you to change the voltage in the BIOS along with the timings, or so I have read over at XS. How the F*** the DS3 can?t read the SPD properly I don?t know.

Also i hear that the E6300's, and E6400's, clock a LOT better on the DS3 compared to the E6600 and E6700 chips, mainly due to the 965 chipset. The 4MB chips perform a lot better on the 975x boards.

The thing is there is little difference in performance between the 2MB and the 4MB chips for the majority of tasks, so keep this in mind. However IIRC you are into your encoding which benefits big time from the 2MB?s extra cache on the E6600 and E6700.

I reckon DS3 with E6300/E6400, keep that for a while and OC. Then wait for the platform to mature, much like San Diego +NF4 on s939. By then you would have reaped the benefits from the small amount of cash you paid in the first place and also you'll be able to buy a better mobo and probably a better clocking chip (due to more mature chips).

At the moment people dont seem to be getting all these amazing clocks that was once thought, with these retail Stepping 6 Rev B2 chips.

Also if you were to take this DS3 + E6300/E6400 preliminary route, you could purchase a better motherboard by the time Intel releases Kentsfield. Then OC the Quadfather of all chips ;)

Why havent you been banned yet? This was no "paper launch, idiot". Only an inexperienced newb would say that, and being that its you, that figures quite well.

The expectations game is tricky to play. Other threads fill your head with fanciful thoughts of early availability and instant availability after launch. The expectations are high.. higher than they should be.

Instead of whining you should be shopping for a better reseller.

There are plenty of proud owners of E6600 and E6700's right now. I don't think they describe their CPU's as paper. LOL.

As far as I knw the latest bios has not fixed this...please link me to a thread about it...Most of all the SATA and iDE going to PIO modes have been fixed with F4c bios....

That makes no sense with the E6600 and E6700, and I think we need to reserve judgement until we see more ppl testing retail units versus ES ones...

List them then??? If Tankguys is saying Tier one distributors dont have them in the US then you find them...Cmon...Tick Tock Tick Tock....

Some say they are shipping the 7th but I think many are going to be surprised.....Tankguys is looking in the same warehouses as all these other stores would be...They likley listed original ETAs as 8/4 for amn 8/7 turnaround shipping...

Please point us to the retailers with those in stock

While technically not a paper launch, it could very well be called one, since very cleverly, Intel hasn't been able to ship anything above the E6400 in any half decent quantity, if at all.
(Aside from the X6800, of course.)

Up here in Canada, same situation... E6400s seem plentiful, while the ETAs on the 6600s are unclear from most places. *sigh*

Maybe Intel is having problems making 4 meg cache versions...

I'll get my Core Duo when there is a good Nforce 5 mobo on the market.

I think patience is a under rated virtue. :p
