Well, that was unexpected (Ebay thread)

A long time ago (3 years?) I had a couple of DVRs I was trying to sell. I put up a post on AVS forum with pictures but no one bit. If I recall I was trying for $150.

Now with the recent Cable card rulings these DVRs are worth a bit more. I finally found a new remote for the last one I was going to sell. I looked on ebay and there is one of them for sale. I was shocked when I saw the picture. It looked a lot like my living room

Granted its hard to tell as its mostly just a shot of carpet, the DVR, power cable bundled up in the same way I would do it and remote but there is clearly a furniture leg where the edge of my coffee table would be and the boarder of my carpet before turning into hardwood is in the upper right. Not to mention the carpet color is the right color

So I dug around a bit and apparently my image from my AVS forum post is one of the first that shows up in a Google image search. Its just a low res archive thumbnail but its definitely the one the seller used

Anyway I know thats a pretty weak blog entry but it surprised me. Do you think I am entitled to any monetary compensation?

Just message the seller:

"Hey, do I know you? 'Cause thats a mighty fine shot of my living room floor and DVR you got there."

I'd probably let it go, but I believe you can file a complaint with ebay and they'll remove the listing. At least as of a few years ago sellers had to use their own images or stock photos for items listed for sale. My wife had a few auctions ended because she'd borrowed images from other auctions that apparently weren't the stock photos, I thought it was kind of nit picky personally but if I were on the other side of the situation I might not feel the same way.

The seller would probably just say (accurately) that they found the picture on google images

Yeah - the only reason I am considering doing this is that the image I will most likely upload will look almost identical to the one he used
