Well that was an interesting drive into work

Started out with ice covered roads and a mix of snow, hail and freezing rain. Apparently I drove towards a warm front though as I soon encountered fog and then it began down pouring rain. (You know because dark skies and fog would be too easy to see the ice through on its own) Shortly thereafter the lightning arrived along with its <1 second later thunder, which was kinda cool with the fog.

So driving in snow, ice, fog, rain and lightning jumbled together is a new experience for me although I'm not sure I like it.

We must be Michigan neighbors 😉

I had one of those "Houdini" accidents on this terrible Tuesday morning. The worst day of the week. I was stuck in traffic for about an hour, reading the electronic signs as I went: "Accident I-495 West. Delays to Exit 50." Get to exit 50 to see a cop car with his lights on in the median - nothing else. At what point do people realize 'OH THE ACCIDENT IS OVER. TIME TO KEEP DRIVING STRAIGHT!' ???? I hate rubberneckers and wish them all death.

I had one of those this morning. There was an actual "accident" but it was an obviously minor bumper tap. They were already on the shoulder and the cop was there but it backed traffic up for almost 30 minutes. Rubberneckers are cancer.

Yep, we got the freezing rain too. It was kinda funny, I pulled into work and the parking lot had way less cars than normal haha. Several of my co-workers are workin from home; I could've if I really wanted to, I guess, but I only live 5 minutes/3 miles from work so it's kinda hard to make an excuse ;-). I prefer workin at the office anyway.

At least the weather is supposed to warm up; 50s by the weekend! Well I just checked, the high is Sunday now and it's 48. It was 52 a few days ago or so. I'll take it!

Had to drive home from MSP into Wisconsin last night, freezing rain/snow the whole time. Thankfully it was late and there was very light traffic, definitely one of the diciest drives I've had to make. Thank goodness for the AWD.

If I had to make a commute like that for work into the city I'd have stayed home for sure.

Driving on ice is an acquired skill, and not an exact one. I actually prefer FWD with traction control to AWD in bad situations as I prefer the vehicle to stop allowing power to wheels altogether and not shifting power to back wheels when the front wheels won't necessarily go in the direction wanted. And engine compression is your friend along with anti-social brakes. I've seen more than my share of trucks in the ditch.

I hate anti-social brakes...I prefer anti-skid brakes. 😛

As for driving on ice...CAN it be done? Sure. Carefully. SHOULD it be done? HELL NO!

are you in michigan?

I can't find the video now, but there was a car commercial where the car was avoiding all kinds of hazards and shit on the road. The OP's post reminds me of this.
