We're in the process of some home renovations/improvements. One big project is to convert the 1/2 bath off the master bed to a full bath. The very last thing was to install this fancy frameless glass shower door. I arrive home last night to find our contractor and one of his guys making progress on getting the door fitted. I'm psyched as it's the very last thing.

5 minutes later I hear...

**CRRRASSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHH**tinkle*snap*skskskskksssssssshshshshhssh*

Contractor appears around the corner covered with broken glass.

The fscking door exploded while they were trying to install the splash guard on the bottom. Replacement won't be here until Monday.

*sigh* :frown:

No pics; the guy felt really bad and I didn't want to make it worse by running around with a camera documenting the disaster. :p

Do you live in the Simpson's universe where stuff explodes when it falls over?

How do you break a glass door while installing a splash guard?

If they were attempting to drill a hole in the tempered glass for the splash guard it could easily cause it to shatter. You cannot cut or drill glass once it has been tempered without special equipment.

This is true, but it still made an amazing mess and I'm now looking at almost another week for a finished bathroom. I'm not really pissed about it, just exasperated. The bathroom was supposed to be done before Xmas.

Nope. It arrived with all the holes pre-drilled from the manu.

I'm in construction. Just because the holes are there don't mean a) they are in the right place and b) somebody didn't mess up and decide they were in the wrong place and needed redrilled or c) somebody lost the supplied bolts and brought bolts that were a little too big and oh, it won't hurt anything just to drill those out just a little bit bigger.....CRASH

The only drilling they did was to attach the hinges to the walls. Now, if they somehow got those out of place a bit, attached the hinges/glass, then tightened everything, I can see why the door would be unstable enough to explode when attempting to put the splash guard in place.

In fact, that's probably what happened.
