I did not think she would actually do it, but she did. And it seems she is glad to do it.

SALT LAKE CITY -- For $10,000, Kari Smith has gone ahead and had her forehead tattooed with the Web address of a gambling site.

Bountiful, 30, who sold her unusual advertising space on eBay, said the money will give her 11-year-old son a private education, which she believes he needs after falling behind in school.

"For the all the sacrifices everyone makes, this is a very small one," she said. "It's a small sacrifice to build a better future for my son," she said.

"To everyone else, it seems like a stupid thing to do. To me, $10,000 is like $1 million. I only live once, and I'm doing it for my son," she said.

Tattoo artist Don Brouse said he and his staff spent nearly seven hours Wednesday trying to talk Smith out of putting "GoldenPalace.com" above her face. When he did go through with it, he kept the inch-tall letters close to her hairline, where bangs or a hat could provide some cover.

Smith's eBay auction attracted more than 27,000 hits and 1,000 watchers. Bidding reached $999.99 before Goldenpalace.com, an Internet gambling company in the Mohawk Territory of Kahnawake, Canada, met Smith's $10,000 asking price.

how long is she supposed to keep it on her? how much does it cost to have it surgically (laser?) removed? heh

eh, hard to say, i mean, suppose she's a poor single mother, if she wants the best for her son, more power to her. i mean, she's got some balls to pull a stunt like that, but like she said, she's doing it for her kid, not herself, show's how much she lovers her child.

1 year from now she's going to kick herself when she realized she could have probably taken up a part time job at McDonalds to get that money. I applaud her devotion to her family, but she's a bit short on the intelligence front to immediately go for this quick fix when other, less permanently scarring means were available, such as:
1. part time job, perhaps later at night/on weekends to not interfere a ton with family life
2. try to help her son catch up herself by doing some tutoring (after all, he's only 11, which is what, like 5th or 6th grade?)
3. loans (although possibly not applicable to her situation)
4. trying to better her work situation/get a new job/more education/skills for herself

And she's in for a rude awakening when she finds out how much private schooling is going to cost (unless she plans only to have him privately schooled at the grade school level, and not at high school).

What a fvcking dumbass.
For her son?
I'm sure her son is going to love the fact that he can never bring any other kids to his house, or bring his mom to school without being ridiculed.

The dumbass had a first name...
It's K A R I
The dumbass had a second name...
It's S M I T H

I hate to hear it every day and if you ask me why i'll say
cuz Kari Smith has no brain
she's R E T A R D E D

$10,000 will pay for one, maybe two years of private school, then the kid will have to go back to public school. Seems counterproductive to make the kid change schools twice in 2 years.
