Well, no help from Leo or Patrick on my VIA USB problem, but I did manage to get a plug in for Anandtech.

Of course my net cam setup decided to choke just before the show so I was limited to phone only. Naturally. But even though Patrick and Leo weren't able to help me figure out why I can't use my USB printer or scanner, I was able to put in quick plug for Anandtech.

Anand and this board have helped me learn quite a bit about computers over the years (remember the old UBB system that would crash ever other day? ). Hopefully we can keep bringing in new members and continue making this the BEST tech board on the internet!

Oh, and BTW, if ANYBODY can help me figure out why I have no USB functions at all, even though everything shows as "This device is working properly.", I would appreciate it.

is it a via super 7 board? i had one of those, it shorted out my rio500 when i tried transferring files and it locked up. Decided to just sell the damn thing and get a new one. If that is your problem as well just buy a seperate USB card, or get a new motherboard. I've had p3 via boards and my webcam worked fine. You might want to get the USB filter driver at viatech.com

They do this show on ZDTV called: The ScreenSavers. They pretend to be hardware/software afficionados but they don't know what they are talking about 1/2 the time. And they work for Ziff-Davis......'nuff said.

Well, you never know. They DO have access to manufacturers and computer experts that the rest of us don't, so I figured it couldn't hurt.

My problem is the fact that I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT get my USB scanner or printer to operate. Nada, zip, zilch, zero, the magic goose egg. They are a Umax Astra 2100U and an Epson Stylus Color 740. On my old motherboard, an Epox EP51MVP3E-M, I had the scanner on USB and the printer on parallel. Worked just fine. NOW, with my Abit KT7-RAID, I can't get EITHER of them to work. I've reinstalled windows, windows drivers, usb drivers, etc. Nothing seems to help.

I'm gonna start pulling NICs next on the off chance that one of them is interfering. But even if one is, I don't know what I'm gonna do since I need two NICs in my machine as its the internet gateway for our other two machines. And apparently other people are having problems with the onboard VIA USB controller as well. I've been seeing a LOT of complaints about it now that I'm looking.

So if anybody knows why I'm having these problems and how to fix it, I would really appreciate it.

If anyone listens to their hardware reccomendations they are getting all their info from anand's site and they are still getting it wrong. I think Patrick knows a little more than leo, he should join the boards

Actually no offense to Leo OR Patrick, but Ol' Marty Seargent seems to be the most cool, knowledgeable, and best in front of the camera.
Leo tries to be a know it all, and doesnt really know it all, and patrick unfortunatly craps out at certain parts on live TV too much, but seems pretty knowledgable. Just has memory loss.

All in all, we need to make an Anandtech Forums Screensavers show, cause we are Smarter imo

I miss Kate. I used to refer to TSS as the "Leo & MonkeyGirl Show". It was fun. Patrick just blows and Martin thinks he's badass, but isn't.

I wrote her a note when they jacked her to GameSpot and told her that I thought she was getting shafted. She said that she was hoping to do alternate OS tips like Linux Quake, etc., but it's clear she's not gonna get to. The only thing they did was take my suggestion to change to sign-off from "bye-bye". "Game over!" is mucho better. (Remember the original signoff back in the day when they had the three hosts?)
