my old p4 prescott finally died (yay!!! i hated that chip so much!!! ) so iam on the market for a new cpu, the problem is, iam low on $$$$ till december, so, shall I buy a Pd 915?? it seems like a excellent buy any opinions?

thanks for the replys guys 🙂 but Iam pretty sure my motherboard cant take a C2D 🙁 , oh well Ill try to sell it, but if I cant the PD-915 will be for now, so a question, the 915 its a fairly upgrade, right?

No, man, it's 600 Mhz slower. But it's dual-core, so for those couple of games that are multi-threaded, it will be faster. It should overclock as well as the 3.4E, as long as your RAM and motherboard can handle it.

If you buy now you can get the Pentium D 915 for 93US or close to that, if you wish to wait for April 22nd, the Pentium D 925 will be 74US by then. Pentium D 9x5 sequence series are decent processor for most tasks. And since they come in C1/D0 steppings, have good thermal headroom.

yeah i know its 600 Mhz slower, but I think that with my motherboard and ram I can hit the 3.6-3.8 wall, and of course it would be better if I could get an C2D, but if I do that I will have to buy a new motherboard, and I dont have that kind of money right now 🙁

Why don't you Ebay your current MB and pick up one of those super cheap Asrock 775 dual vsta boards? It will allow you to go C2D now.

You can alternatively sell the mb and go AMD with the $133 combo: Tforce 550+X2-3600 combo that can easily OC to 2.8 or so and save you a bundle, also I recommend get the Freezer pro 64 for cooling. Nice combo on a budget.
