Well my mom is the first casualty of this election

Short story, mom went to vote this morning. They had three lines and at the front of the lines, they had signs taped to chair to break up the alphabet. So one line was like A-K, Next was L-P, Q-Z.

Well the line was so long she couldn't see the signs and she just jumped in a line. No one was talking about which line was which. She got to the front and saw the sign. She had waited 1.5 hours. They told her to go to the back of the correct line. So basically she was going to have to wait 3 hours to vote.

EDIT: Fixed the letters since I made them up wrong....

She's a casualty of herself. If you cannot follow simple directions, why should your vote count?

This is going to be West Palm Beach 2000 all over again. My TV will be filled with people wearing their stupidity on their sleeves like badges of honor instead of slinking away in shame like they should.

When the polling place doesn't place signs where people can see them, NO!!!!

The line was long, the polling place did not put signs where they could be seen. How is that not following directions?

its a simple mistake. anyone can make that mistake. get over yourself

Considering my last name begins with P, I'd probably be a casualty of the election as well if the lines were labelled that way.

When I see multiple lines, I ask which one is for what. Especially when they differ so much in length.

Did she think the short line was for special people who felt they shouldn't wait??

Well that was a goof on my part. I don't know exactly what letters they were broken up and I am sure they didn't do something as stupid as I just posted. I hope they did do L-P then P-Z. I should have obviously put Q-Z

Actually these lines mean that there is a large turnout. A lot more people are interested in this election than the last one.

She could have walked to the front of the line to read the signs, if she didn't that's her own fault.

While you do have the right to vote, you do not have the right to circumvent the systems that are in place to ensure everyone their right in a timely fashion.

She tossed away her vote for her own unwillingness to accept responsibility for her mistake.

If she's a casualty it was suicide.

Actually all the lines where about the same length. There were no pollers around to ask and it just wasn't my mom that got turned away. They told mass groups of people to get in the correct line.

The polling place is a church. The lines usually wrap around the outside of the church. I voted there last election and they had no lines to split up people. They just had multiple lines. My mom has been voting at this place for the past 30 years. So they change their method, don't post signs, and make people run to the back of the line.

STFU OP. It was your mom's own fault.

I really hope she gets on TV and is like "Wel, yeah, there were signs. But they dont expect me to READ them do they?! I was forced to wait an hour and a half! GO BUSH!"

then everyone can laugh about how stupid she was.

OH stfu, she has voted at this place probably longer than you have been alive. They change methods of organizing people which DOES make sense. However, not posting any signs that are visible is STUPID.

wow, some haters in this thread.

Codewiz, that sucks for your Mom. i can see why she made the error.
it takes to friggin long to vote in this country. i hate waiting in lines. somebody needs to invent a better mousetrap before 2008.

Next, when the electoral votes in your state dont go your way, are you going to claim voter intimidation as well (I HAD TO WAIT TOO LONG!)? Are you old enough to vote? Go out and cast your vote and stop complaining about 'the system'.

I told my mom to wait a while and cool down. Then try to go back later today. Hopefully she will go back out and get to vote.

If she's voting for Bush, I'd encourage her to head back and vote later. However, if it's a vote for Kerry, I'll be happy if she stays home. 😉

Wont matter much either way in SC. It's far from a swing state.

If it bothers you that much why don't you do it yourself?

There are 250 million people in this country, if we figure maybe half are eligible to vote (pulling numbers out of my ass here, but just go with me) that's 125 million people that could potentially vote. Obviously not all will, so let's say we see pretty good turnout & get 20% of those off their asses & to the polls. That's 25 million people that need to vote in a single 12 hour window.

Oregon actually has a pretty decent system going, everyone gets a ballot mailed to them. You then have the option, vote by mail or show up at the polls.

Electronic voting might alleviate some of the lines but there is still a significant portion of the population that won't trust them & another portion that doesn't have internet access or a PC, etc.

Physical polling locations aren't going anywhere anytime soon, & there will be lines.

If people aren't smart enough to navigate the lines...

Then it's their own damn problem.

Listen here. I have been voting EVERY election since I was able. My first was in 1996.

I have already casted my vote. Why don't you grow up?

breaking up the lines by last name is retarded...

you can have 1 really short line and 1 really long line. Why not just have 3 lines w/o bias? 🙂
