Right after dismal first quarter results (released yesterday), our division is being bought out... I'm an intern and I'm really suprised that I wasn't let go with the first round of layoffs that happened in January, I can pretty much kiss my summer internship goodbye :(

Paid well too :(

Interns = full timer work at a fraction of the pay.

Win win situation.

actually, you might be kept on if you are actually producing, since you prolly get paid less than any other full timer.

Is it a big company? What's the name? We might have heard of it.

Sorry to hear about your job situation.

I wouldn't worry until you know for sure. But now is a good time to start looking around just in case.

I agree -- you have knowledge that is cheap to hold onto in the company because you're cheap to keep compared to other employees. But I'd still keep my eyes out for something that is more beneficial to myself than some takeover company (after all, the whole point is to have good contacts down the road, right?).

Yeh Intern = cheap help. The only person less likely to get laid off is the CEO himself.

Where, oh fellow Oregonian, do you work in Oregon? What company?

Maybe Sony in Eugene? They just closed down.

Eugene just lost 1,200 jobs (all high tech/high paying I believe) yesterday I think. The city is really hurting right now in the job market.

I'm about ready to lose my job too...one of my friends (heh or used to be) started working where I work and I'm supposed to help get him started since I've been working there about 8 months. I show him how to do something, ask if he's got it and he says yes, I leave him alone for two seconds and he fvcks something up. This normally wouldn't be a HUGE deal, but when my boss asks him what happened he says "Oh that's what Bryce told me to do." It pisses me off like nothing else.

Have you sat down to explain what exactly is happening to your boss? Don't lose your job over something like that! It isn't good for your nor the company.
