I will NEVER overclock again. Thanks to the wonderful worldo f overclocking I now have to run my friggin computer at a fsb speed of 83mhz. Th damn thing wont run win2k for more than a few minutes if I set it any higher. I dont get it....I used to be able to oc this p3 650 to 806 with a dual fan+hugh ass heat sink and it ran beautifully. Then about 6 months ago it started running like peice of donkey dung so I lowered the fsb back to 650 it has never been the same. for some reason it keeps getting worse.

Well I have this p3 600 sitting here but it wont work in either of the mobos that I have. I have an asus p2b-s tha I got with the cpu but it only ran on that mobo for 3 days and then it stopped posting and everything. I cant get it to run on my abit be6(very foirst be6) it just wont post on any of the 2 boards. I think it has to do with the fact ath it is not a coppermine but both boards where around before the coppermines so it should work. The 600 needs a voltage of 2.05 to run but the be6 only lists up to 1.85. Well either way I think it is dead cause it only worked for 3 days or so.

Any one want to sell me a WORKING slot 1 p3 preferably 700-800mhz?

Could the memory be bad by chance? Or my video card? Any thing else?

I AM REALLY CONFUSED!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! PLEASE HELP ME!! I WILL BE YOUR BEST FRIEND....WELL ONLY IF YOU WANT ME TO BE :0)

Overclocking can be great fun--you feel like you are getting something for nothing, speed at no cost. If you use the machine for fun and games, a tempormental computer is ok. But if it a "work" computer don't do it!! I have had great luck overclocking cheap $75 Celeron/Durons, but will not do it with a expensive PIII or Tbird. How is you hard drive liking 83MHz, probably not for long. Nothing is free. Processors are sold to run at a specific speed, because that is where they will run reliably at a normal voltage, etc. You can many times make the overclock work with extreme voltage or cooling, but what if one of those case fans fail at 4AM when you are asleep?? Fried Thunderbird for breakfast. Just my observations. R

Thank you for your replies. I know what overclocking means. I use this machine for games and fun. I am a little confused at what you mean byu my hdds liking 83mhz. The 83 refers to fsb of the processor (which is a 100mhz fsb processor). My hdds have no problem with it unless there is something wrong with running the system at a slower speed? If so please let me know.

If you have a old mobo that doesn't have 1/4 PCI divider, you'll be running your PCI devices at 41mhz when the FSB is at 83mhz. Some devices don't run well, or at all with that speed, especially the hard drive.

The BE6 should be able to use the P3 600 just fine, probably the p2b-s, too.

I remember I used my Slot 1 Celeron 333mhz and my ppga Celeron 500 w/slotket in my old Abit BE6-2 motherboard and they both required 2.0v, so the Katmai cpu should work fine. I also used my P3 700 fcpga cpu with it using a slotket, so the P3 600 could be messed up.

"The 600 needs a voltage of 2.05 to run but the be6 only lists up to 1.85." I think it only lists up to 1.85v, because you have the fcpga 650 plugged into it. On my BE6-2 when I had my P3 700 in it would max out at either 1.85, or 1.90 I don't remember the exact one, but when I had one of the Celeron's listed above in it would default at 2.0v and allow me to go up to like 2.3v, or something around there.
