Well I've been saving up for a while, and I just bought the Shure E3c's...

I've been listening to them for a while now, and there is absolutely NO BASS! My $50 Sony Fontopia earbuds have more bass than theese. Yes I did put them in correctly following the instructions on shure's website, and I've tried ALL of the tips, there is just no bass. Well I suppose I could take them back (to CC), saying that they're broken, because there is no bass. All the reviews I've read say theese are awesome with bass, but they just sound crappy 🙁.
 
Folks say the 3's are weaker on the lows than the 2's which aren't that great. Better bass begins with the 4's and up I'm told. I've heard the 5's and they have good bass but not as good as the UE10's I currently own.

Really? wow. I guess I'll take them back then and switch back to my good ole' Sony Earbuds. They go down to 20Hz, I tested them. (I think you're the one that posted the frequency test on atot here)
 
Why don't you listen to them for a while & then see if you can stand going back to your Sony's.

What are you using as a source? Amped or straight from the source?

Fontopias are known for heavy bass, that does NOT make them better headphones.

If you paid $180 for the headphones then I hope to god your not using them to listen to MP'3 on an Ipod.

Why not? A portable music player is one of the best applications for isolating earphones.

i have these, and the bass is fine. You are probably not wearing them correctly. You need an airtight seal. It's awkward if you've never worn this type of headphone, kind of invasive actually. But the buds need to go pretty much as far into your ear canal as they can painlessly fit.

Also, they should have come with some yellow collered squishy foam earbud covers. Those are the best in terms of quality, and comfort, compared to the rubber ones that come with these earbuds. Try using those.

What you do is roll them back and forth between two fingers until the foam is compressed into as thin a cylinder as possible. Then quickly before they get a chance to expand, insert into your ear, and hold the position with your hand until the foam expands enough to be able to hold itself. Then you loop the wire around the top of your ear and have it come down the back of your ear, to the front of your neck. Then do the same with the other ear.

OMG!!! I put them all the way in like you said, man what a difference!! IT'S LIKE A SUBWOOFER IN MY HEAD!!!! The phone just rang right beside me too and I didn't hear it :shocked:! THANKS SOO MUCH THIS IS CRAZY!!!!!!!! AHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHH!!!!!!!!!

Yeah the bass is great, and I think I've just been used to the exessive bass on the fontopias. It looks like this is "The Way It's Meant To Be Played" 😛😀
 
Your source might say a lot for the lack of bass, but from the ER-6i's I tried, I was not happy with their bass either from an IEM, and I'm not even a basshead. You said your source was cd-quality wav but what are you playing it out of? What types of tracks (rap, metal, rock, etc.) or band/song specific are you listening to? Do you really know what "good bass" sounds like, what do you have to compare it to?

PS: I think you got ripped for $180 on E3C's 🙁

Well there's hardly any headphone on the market that can compete with a subwoofer, it just won't happen.

Since you're using an audigy-based card, I would recommend you try installing the kX Project drivers. While they're not really geared towards gamers, they sound 10x better for music than the drivers that came with my Audigy 1 Platinum a few years back. They really opened up the highs and gave my headphones more detail. I'd recommend making a backup of your system before installing them since doing a restore is much easier than uninstalling a driver package that might leave unwanted changes to your system.

I just bought some E2C's and the bass is awesome enough. Just like KingGheedora said, you have to make sure you get an air-tight seal for it to sound good. I am pairing it with my Iriver Clix and I can definitely tell the difference between these and the ones that came with the player. I have to be careful though because I can't hear anything else. 🙂 When I was at the gym today I was like I can't hear anything else, not even my feet hitting the track.
