Well, I've been offered two different processors for a laptop...

Well, I've been offered a PM 750 at 1.86 Ghz, (should perform about the same as a P4 2.8? 2.4?) but that isn't what I've been wondering about. They also offered me a PM LV 758 at 1.5 ghz.
Well, II wanted to ask 2 questions:
1) does the LV (I guessed it means low voltage?) mean anything, or did they just forget to ad it with to 750.
2) Is the 758 supposed to be a 1.5 Ghz cpu? I thought that the first two numbers are speed (1.86, like the 750), and the third number means that there's another feature (like the 1 with the p4's that meant 64 bit, at least I think it was 1)

Not sure if this helps, but LV is "Low voltage" and is even more power miserly than the regular M. I think there's a slight clock penalty for the extra lop power, and from what I've seen, there is a price premium for LV models.

Welcome to the forums howdydooit and great to see you jump right in and participate. What you said sounds pretty reasonable. For linkgoron, perhaps think a moment on how you envision using the notebook. If you aren't going to be on battery power too often, then perhaps go for the higher GHz. If you do plan to use battery power often, I can tell you that probably a lot of people on battery had at one time or another wished that they had another 15 minutes of juice left to finish that movie on the flight or to finish sending an important email.

I'd go with the 750. My Dell D610 has a 750 and my IBM x41 tablet has the 758 LV. With the bay battery in the D610 and the 9 cell in the x41, they both get roughly 6 hours of life on battery power under normal conditions. The 750 feels faster and performs better then the 758 LV, so unless you need a small laptop with a great battery life, you'll get a noticable performance increase with the 750 over the 758 LV.

Edit: forgot to mention, 750 uses a 533 fsb, 758 is still on the 400 fsb.
