Well, I just built this computer a few months ago, but my system has been cluttered with so much crap that I can't deal with it anymore :)

Thanks for reading this blurb on my boring life ;)

Why is it that people rush to reformat at the first sign of trouble? What ever happened to booting froom a floppy, deleting the \Windows and \Program Files directory while keeping all the important stuff intact, and installing the OS again?

I imagine after the many terabytes of porn that goes through the system, you wanna create the illusion of cleanliness once in a while.

Are you guys not listening?!

Why the hell would you format at all (I mean, after FDisking for the very first time)?! Do you really enjoy backing stuff up, spending time formatting, and then restoring all your files? Dang.

For the last time! ;) :
Delete \Windows and \Program Files,
then just reinstall the OS!

For myself, I do an occasional reformat (every 6 to 12 months, usually in coincidence with a major hardware upgrade,) for others I try to do the deltree/windows and deltree/progra~1 thing and then re-install the OS.

Yup. I install OS, drivers, important programs, etc. and then Ghost it. Then it becomes my backup template. :)

That coupled with never putting useful stuff on the OS partition r0x0rs j00r b0x0rs!

do you folks make a hdisk partion, such as D: to contain all ur data, c: contains the OS and all APPS, therefore you can just backup all of D: and know you've backed up all your data swiftly.

only problem is it is hard to know how much of the hdisk to partion for c: vs. d:

i guess if you had partion magic you can modify them as needed though.

I reformat monthly - since all I run on my computer anymore is Phoenix, Trillian, OpenOffice, Kazaa, and Winamp...

yup, use parititon magic to redoo your partitions if needed. o/s with main appz should have a partition of no more then 6gb really. u should never install games /mp3/videos and sh*t on there. that way you can wipe the o/s partition witohut much loss. make a clean image with ghost or whatever of your o/s fully updated with sp1/antivirus/office/etc. next time u hose ur windows u can return to a state thats totally functional within 15 minutes. all u gotta do is reinstall games and stuff. takes a lot of worry out of things having a ghost image. all one must do is backup outlook pst files/documents/bookmarks before restore.

I could really to reformat so I can have a fresh install of everything. However, my system has been too stable to warrant it... :)
