with the release of the 77xx series, my big power-eating 'gaming computer' is now barely entry-level of the current generation everything. my c2q is slower playing games than a pentium g620 and my 4870 is pretty well matched by the 7750.

this makes me sad.


(though, prices for this level of performance really haven't come down from what i paid years ago )

What Core 2 Quad do you have? It would depend on the game to determine whether or not a Pentium g620 actually outperforms it. For most games made in the last year to two years, I doubt that's the case. That being said an upgrade sure wouldn't hurt. You'd likely see a good performance boost.

I just ordered the rest of my new system parts from Newegg today. I run at stock so it was an i5-2500 (not K), ASRock Z68 PRO3 GEN3 ($105), 8 GB Crucial RAM ($35), and an $18 Lite-on DVD burner.

$368 shipped for twice the RAM and 3-4 times the CPU power of my current E8400 and 4 GB.

Desktop computer components are so inexpensive, spending $300 is enough it keep you at the bleeding edge.

Maybe a little extra if you do heavy gaming.

~$200 for a CPU, $70 for a motherboard and $30 for RAM (if you need it).
