Under the Spied Section: (of this months Car & Driver) They have confirmed the rumor of a Honda producing a light truck based on the Pilot SUV platform. The truck will have 4 doors and an approx. 5-foot bed. Wheel base is stretch compared to pilot, all sheet metal will be new to distingish it. It will use the same pilot/mdx drivetrain. The article did also mention the likely hood of a Chevrolet Avalanch type pass through seemed un-likely.

The Pilot and the MDX are derived off the Odyssey minivan platform, which is unibody. And they plan on making a truck out of this?

  • The Pilot's a uni-body. Boy, this ought to be a real beast.

I'm assuming so, I don't know if they could mangle the platform enough to remove the unibody. Scary, isn't it :Q

What's wrong with a uni-body construction ?
Body on frame = strong frame rails = the townage! Frame can take a hell of a lot more beating, as tow stress is limited to those ultra strong rails. Unibody distributes the tow stress over the entire frame, who's components aren't as strong as rails.

Honda has been talking about it for years. They have pics of concept trucks all over the Honda plant in Marysville... I can't wait to see the final product.

Yep. Well, considering that most truck owners don't use their truck for much towing, it should have as much usability as the Pilot/MDX.

I knew that months ago when I worked at a Honda dealership...ayup...unibody truck.

And, you know what?

They'll sell a ton of them because it's a Honda and it will be something new.

Should be a 2005 model.

Since most Japanese auto fanboys are so comfortable with useless fake spoilers, ground effects and exhaust tips on their sporty cars, a fake truck would be right up their alley.

"You plow with a 4dr truck?" ;)

It's doable with a $200.00 Snow Prep Package. Any decent sized SUV can too.
