2010 Nissan Versa 1.8SL hatchback

Driving the speed limit (45 mph) and got T-boned by someone in a 93 Dodge pickup that was oblivious to their stop sign or did not see me. Lost control after the impact and spun out and hit/jumped a 6" concrete curb at a 45 degree angle. Both front and back passenger doors damaged, one window smashed, side air bags deployed. Also the back right quadrant and wheel well and frame damaged. The curb jump tore chunk off of front bumper and damaged front suspension and steering. Rear suspension did not look too hot either.

This was all based off of cursory inspection, currently having the body shop and insurance guy doing more detailed check of the vehicle. Only made the first payment 3 days ago. Am hoping they just write it off as totaled since I do not see it able to be repaired without it running "not quite right" plus also have gap insurance.

Photos would help, but from your description of the damage, it is totalled.

Happened when me and three coworkers were on the way back to work from lunch. The passenger on the back seat on the impact side go the worst of it and will probably be checking up with an auto injury doctor. The rest of us seem to have minor things here and there, course may change tomorrow morning.

Did get all of our bells rattled a bit though and some ringing of the ears due to air bags going off. Was not able to get photos before the tow truck came and went.

If it is flagged as totaled, will be buying the same thing. Course am considering a more contrasting color than silver this time though...perhaps red.

Car sounds fvcked based on your description. Good to hear you are ok!

Yeah you'll likely feel something tomorrow, but even on the most minor of accidents it's common to feel some soreness. Don't assume that you'll have whiplash or some such crap that the ambulance chasers go on about unless you truly think something is wrong.

Good thing you have gap insurance.

Look at the good side, if there was anything you wanted to change about the car, now's your chance.

Little bit sore at the neck and standard Tylenol is taking care most of it. Did schedule a Dr. appointment though for it to be checked out and some X-rays just to be safe. The damage was estimated as over $10k and was flagged as totaled. Am currently faxing all the paperwork from the purchase of the car as well as receipts of upgrades I had done (window tint, car horn).

I only view a car as a device to get me from point A to B so always have drove "standard fare" types of cars (Dodge Shadow, Toyota Camry). For some reason I always liked hatchbacks so after getting rid of the Camry went to the Versa Hatch. The engine when paired with a CVT transmission seemed to perform better than a Fit and Yaris based on my driving style. Did enjoy driving it and when fully loaded with my friends for lunch it did not strain. Also am pretty impressed on how well it protected the occupants from a broadside of a Dodge brick..er..truck on wheels.

I've had a versa for about 2 1/2 years now, good vehicle.

glad to hear you all made it through safely.

it does have good crash ratings etc for a small car, helps make my insurance dirt cheap ;).

Crash ratings and the standard side airbags inc back seat were one of the reasons I bought my Versa as the ruggers ride back there regularily

Glad you made it out ok. If you are faxing receipts for all of the accessories, are you expecting that their insurance company is going to pay for them?

what about the gas you had in the tank...? ;)

Yeah, don't take it lightly, side impacts are worse on your neck and back than frontal or rear impacts. After I get t-bowned by a mercedes, about 3 days later, I developed a major headache and sore neck that wouldn't go away. After 2 weeks of seeing Dr's and popping Excedrin migrain like tic tacs It subsided.

I love my Versa as well! Just got my snow tires on today for the big storm! We're getting around 10 - 12 inches of snow today, so I've been watching each intersection really carefully so I don't get destroyed.

I've been t-boned before too, girl ran an intersection doing 40 and destroyed my first car. I hope you and your friends are ok, make sure you take it easy for the next couple days.

Oh... and glad you like your V, mine hasn't let me down.

My wife ran across an article years ago saying that statistically speaking, silver cars are involved in more accidents because they blend in and are the most difficult for other drivers to see. This was years ago, so things may have changed.

Sorry to hear about the crash man. Good thing that car wasn't going any faster...getting T-Boned in a small car is a very scary experience.
