Took my laptop into compUSA today because the screen is scratched and I dod have the 3 year Warrenty that expires next month.

I was really hoping that they would say sorry and just replace the whole damn thing. We it turns outthat the screen is replacable and they are getting it in in a few days and then I can take my lappy to get it replaced. I was really hoping they would just replace the whole damn thing.

it's an older compaq 1200 with an AMD 400 it's slow as snot on a cold day. Well at least I will have a pretty new screen to look at;)

Update

Well went to compUSA today to grab some of the $8 CDR's. (it's pretty much a rule under 10 cents a disk with no rebates we buy)

I went to the service counter and asked what the staus of my laptop was, the guy said "UH I think there was a problem with the LCD" so I asked what type of problem. he said they "think" they may have gotten a bad LCD because they can't get the thing to turn on.

so maybe THEY fried the laptop. They did tell me that the battery was under warrenty and because it only holds a charge for about 3 minutes (long enough to boot) that it would be replaced when they fix the other part. I have to go up there again on monday so I will stop in.

Man that would rock it they killed the laptop.

is it the type of warranty that would cover from Electrical damage as well ?
Have you ever thought about shocking it ? They'll prolly replace it with a low end celeron system or something.. but maybe you can give it a go.

I remember when they told me that I can even drop the laptop and they'll cover it under warranty if I bought the additional warranty thye offered.

I have one of those Compaq 1200's and they are durable. My only complaint is the passive matrix screen, which looks like suck.

Yeah pretty much anything is better than that damn screen and only a 3.2 GB HD. I did add some memory. It works but it works SLOWLY. I do have the FULL WARRENTY cost about 400 bucks. I bought this thing for work three years ago thinking I could write it off but my deductions didn't add up to the standard deduction:(.

I really don't want to shock the thing I was just kinda hoping;)
