New build for my bro, I'm re-using the following:
4x512MB OCZ PC3200 gold
evga 7600gt
3800 x2
New stuff:
Foxconn/Winfast nforce 4 ultra NF4UK8AA
Coolmax 400 watt PSU
Maxtor 160 GB HDD I had lying around.
Computer keeps dying when running CNC3 or 3dmark03. Died a couple of times while I was doing stuff in windows, but I was removing drivers/rivatuner and had CPU-Z open, so don't know if that had anything to do with it.
EDIT: This doesn't just happen in games, it dies randomly while just working in windows.
After playing CNC3 for a while, either the screen goes blank and the comp stays on, everything just freezes, it restarts, or the "X program has encountered an error and needs to close" message. Sometimes both, the program crashes to the desktop, and shortly after the whole thing dies. I ran 3dmark05 and it finished it without crashing, oddly. Another odd thing is that at first it would die immediately, only a few seconds into CNC3 and on the first 3dmark03 test. But later...
I reseated the videocard and tried again the next day, and I would be able to play CNC3 longer before it would die. I also ran 3dmark03 again and it finished the test strangely.
To see if either the PSU or videocard were the issue, I installed both into my comp, and I had no issues. Mine is an e4500, 2x1GB OCZ DDR2@800, EVGA 650i ultra, 1 HDD, 1 disc drive.
I ran memtest for about an hour and passed with 0 errors.
I ran Orthos for 35 minutes, passed with 0 errors and temps were 46 and 41 for cores 1 and 2 respectively.
I reinstalled all drivers (correctly, as in removing all drivers, rebooting into safe mode, running driver cleaner).
I changed the mobo drivers to ones that came in the box.
So what next? Try my comp's PSU in it? Try more games? There's an AUX PEX molex socket on the mobo...it's unusual to me, but I have it connected to the PSU anyways. It would seem to be the motherboard, but its brand new...
