I've finished my studies, got a pretty good grade and am now earning a packet. My life rocks.

Feel better?

I had that happen to me my Freshman year of college. I narrowly missed the 3.0 cutoff my second semester and the financial aid people sent me a letter saying that I was going to lose my scholarship, but I could write them a letter explaining why I didn't make the 3.0 cutoff and maybe they'd consider letting me keep my scholarship.

So, I wrote the letter and a few weeks later they replied back saying my scholarship was approved for the next year. I think the combination of being in one of the hardest majors the college offered, plus being fairly close to the cufoff helped too.

EE at a small private college.

The classes should be easy though because there are no real engineering courses yet but I'm fvcking them up anyway. Engineering physics and chem, calc 2 and a history course. I'll probably end around a 2.8. That's from an A-, two B-, and one C.

I did the same my freshman year of college...slacked off, missed too many classes, and it bit me in the arse. Lost HOPE (the GA state-sponsored scholarship), left school for a year, and by the time I went back, the time off--coupled with my new-found appreciation for scholarship money--led to quite a few catch-up 4.0 semesters.

Do what you can to salvage this semester/quarter, and start establishing your study habits and schedule NOW rather than saying you'll change starting in January.

A little of both. I've definitely been working hard and not skipping any classes but there were quite a few occasions where studying/work got cut short due to a lot of other rough family issues I'm dealing with. The thing is, I've crunched the numbers, and even by cranking out As on my finals most of my grades would only go up maybe 2%. So it's really hard to find the motivation at this point in the semester.

Listen, don't quit on the semester. Go to the Financial Aid office and talk to someone about your concerns now, before they get your grades. Explain that you've had some family situations and, along with adjusting to college in your first semester, it's been hard for you to get up to a 3.0. The fact that you've been going to your classes will help. Be honest and say that you are having a hard time staying motivated to do your best when the loss of your scholarship money is hanging over your head.

I'm telling you, if you do that you have a very good chance of being cut some slack. You aren't going to miss by much and the first semester is tough for a lot of people. They will work with you.

Do it. You'll be glad you did.

Yeah I'm definitely going to. And they even do explicitly state that the 3.0 min may be waived for people with "high need" and I KNOW I'll fall into that category.

a 3.0 is not always easy....If that's what you are implying

A 3.0 shouldnt be too difficult for anyone suitably motivated. You can read into that what you will, and most of what you read into it would probably be correct.

I have a 2.7 GPA. My school is doing all they can to refuseaid. They even went as far as to make a claim that i did not send in my FASFA.
