Hey,
Im new here, but I have to throw on this convo.....
Oh my god Rochester sucks!
Well I am from Manhattan NYC, so maybe its all in the comparisons....but I found it wonderful for a few things.
1) Beer is like $2.50 at most at bars/clubs ( Clubs are lame at best)
2) The ducks at marketplace mall across the street from wegmans
3) Great snowfall amount (Crappy snowboarding though)
4) Rent was great (3 b/d room condo for me & g/f 650 month)
5) there is like 5 colleges within 20 miles of each other....lots of girls
6) Garbage plates!!!----nothing better late at night drinking!!! CHeap also, I remeber them being like $5 or something, and you get FULL!
7) Eastman House was pretty hot, they have movie screenings of all great classics
8) Good musuems and so forth..........and priced correctly, $5 or so
9) 1 hour commute to Canadian Casinos!!!!----
I went to R.I.T, only for 2 years---(transfer)---I originally went b/c I needed to get away from NYC, so I figured I would head to the sticks to concentrate on school....and it worked. I drank more than ever though, I mean there isnt much else to do, honestly, there really isnt. It snows everyday, and they never cancel school b/c they are set up to handle the snow....as for here in NYC, if we get 3 inches the freakin city is basically a mess. I really enjoyed the ladies though, I mean they are all over...everywhere you go. All thats there is college aged kids so if you go to target or home depot or whatever your destin to meet them. And
ro-cha-cha girls party. Now they arent the greatest.....I mean lets be honest, but they get down. No offense ladies of rochester, if your hot, your hot, but your in the minority.
For the U of R accepting guy, I would seriously weigh your options, I honestly think you should make the most of college, in terms of education, as well as personal growth. Get it out of your system while you still can, most importantly have fun.......It sucks working, this 9-5 stuff is lame.....and you want to experience the world as a college student, believe me, there is no better way. College is more about learning the world, people, experiences, etc. than term papers and so forth. You'll see later, dont let those 4 years go by without the greatest times of your life happening.
All in all I suggest going to college in Boston, Chicago, NYC, or somewhere similar, I mean its not for everyone, but its so much of an experience, and you have the best of the best at your fingertips, such as the guggenheim, MOMA, (NYC) etc. THe options are just so much better but again remeber you get what you pay for....The student discount still brings the tickets to $10....Outrageous on a college budget!
Big Cities offer things on a bigger scale, and they have the resources to acquire these wonderful items....where the smaller cities really cant compare.
You know the worst part of Rochester ......Damn Krispy Kreme Down by Tops Market, off 419 or something, over by MCC......that damn thing kept me in traffic for 2 hours when it opened b/c I needed to take that exit and got caught up in it. That freaking thing opening was like the biggest excitement in the city for years, it was everything they talked about for weeks.
Its cheap though.......So in the end you get what you pay for! At least for me. Me----paying $2400/month for a one bedroom apt that fits in my college apt. living room! Although I wouldnt go back no matter what!
