I jumped ship from Apple back in December for various reasons, but mainly because I hate OS X Lion. But now my new employer wants me to make them an iOS app, so they got me the current 11 inch MacBook Air, the higher end model with 4 gb of memory.
This little twerp of a machine is pretty damn quick for everyday tasks thanks to its solid state drive. I love how light and thin it is; I just throw it in my bag with my ThinkPad and hardly even feel a difference!
Here's my take on the machine so far... Man, it's VERY nice to use if you want extreme portability! The screen resolution is just right for the size, although for coding, you really do want more. Perhaps the 13 inch model would be more appropriate for only $100 more. However, in my case where this is a secondary laptop, I favor the portability. I'm literally carrying 2 laptops around with me and it only feels like one. But the only reason why I feel so positive about the 11" MacBook Air is because I didn't pay for it. I wouldn't ever buy one; they're underwhelming for what you pay. If this $1200 model was $800, then it'd be worth it. So in a nutshell, great product experience, but way overpriced.
As for OS X Lion, I'll just have to put up with not having Spaces. I know that may sound stupid to some of you, but it *is* a very huge deal to me. And no, Mission Control is not even CLOSE to as good as Spaces. The purpose of Mission Control is to look cool, whereas Spaces actually allowed the power user to increase productivity with little to no intrusion. It allowed for very powerful workflows. That being said, the rest of Lion is fine by me; I still have the option to ignore the CRAP I don't care about (Launchpad, anyone?) and use it the same way I would a proper operating system. The latest Safari is pretty slick and I'll stick with it for now.
If anyone's in the market for a MacBook Air and would like any specific questions answered, post them in here and I'll do my best
