They are now shooting for a mid summer launch.

Do people actually still give a rats behind about this game?

I would if there was going to be a Linux port, but as long as there isn't one I won't have a machine to play it on.

The game will come out (eventually) and when it does, I'll pick it up.

At the least, I'm glad there aren't that many anymore people asking, '...will my system run HL2 okay?...' or '...what video card should I get to play HL2?...'

I found it interesting some touting a couple of months back, '...now my system is HL2 ready...' when it hasn't even been released.

A game based on the HL2 engine - Vampire :Somesubtitlehere! is coming out before the actual game itself. Valve is a fvcking joke.

game delay, big deal. It happens all the time. I'm not losing a bit of sleep over it. I'm sure it'll rock when it comes out.

Value should have (and still can) release a good-faith demo. Say 1 or 2 singleplayer levels, nothing fancy. And they would if their fans came first but that spot is reserved for hype, marketing, promotion and hardware sales tie-ins.

I would rather a game delayed time and again than having it released and needing a huge update right after I open the box (Blizzard. I respect Blizzard). I didn't pay $50 to beta test the game. I also agree, I find it funny that people spent $500 on a video card to be "HL2 ready" months before the specs were even known, much less the game released.

What I think that is funny about HL2 is how they tried to blame the late release on the code leak from the hacked servers.

What make's it even funnier was how it got hacked...

Someone sent the founder of valve, Gabe Newell, a worm in a e-mail attactement. He clicked on it and it installed a keylogger on his windows machine which gave away his username and password to the server

And that is even funnier when you realise that Gabe worked for MS for 13 years before starting valve and was:

(from here)
His responsibilities included running program management for the first two releases of Windows, starting the company's multimedia division, and, most recently, leading the company's efforts on the Information Highway PC.

You would think that he would know enough not to trust e-mail attatchments in outlook.

Poor poor halflife2.

Oh, well. I am still looking forward to Doom3 personally.

I don't know why so many people have their panties in a bunch over HL2 being delayed. Game release delays are almost the norm in the industry, since we don't live in a perfect world and sh1t happens. I'd rather Valve release a fully functional, as bug free as possible game rather than one that will be full of hackers and script kiddies. If they had released the game on schedule, even despite the source code already being compromised, all you whiners would be singing the tune that Valve should have fixed the problem rather than be greedy and release it on time.

Do you really think they wanted to delay the game by 6 months? For every day that it's delayed, it means they're paying another day of salaries, losing a day of sales, and having the gaming technology age a day. Do you really think they would willingly subject themselves to this if it wasn't necessary?

I don't even play FPS, and won't be playing HL2, but at least i can see the whole picture.

I don't know why so many people have their panties in a bunch over HL2 being delayed.

Valve said the game would be out on September 30th 2003. In August of 2003 Valve was still saying the game would be out on that date. There can be no doubt as of this point they knew without a doubt that the game wasn't close to ready for shipping at that point. A couple of weeks before that date they backed off the game being available by then, but said the bench for the game to test performance would launch on that date.

Valve makes promise, breaks it. Makes promise, breaks it. This builds hostility.

On the other side of the spectrum- id stays silent/states 'when it's done'. This builds anticipation.

Do you really think they wanted to delay the game by 6 months?

I'd say a year delay if we are lucky(six months means it would ship next month). The reason people are angered is because Valve lied to them. If you don't have a pretty good idea of when you are going to ship don't say anything. If you do say something and you figure out it isn't possible don't wait until after that date to acknowledge that you can't hit it, make the statement ASAP. Best policy is id's, 'it ships when it's done' is the only public comment you should make until you know the game is about to ship.
