Let me be the first to try to dissuade you, that's most likely a BAD decision. Are you still in HS? Or college? You're what... 19? Do you pay rent at home?

Wait until you're damn sure you're capable of supporting yourself before you take the plunge.

1) hug :)

2) i agree with viper. moving out is a bad idea unless you are capable of supporting yourself. or at least have a place to sleep/eat. just ignore whatever is bothering you if possible. take care of business, get a job, and then get the hell out of there.

3) what happened?

Reality Check:

Rent $600 (or at least thats what it is around here at a "ok" apartment, you can get one for $450 if you want to live in a project)

Electric bill $80

Water $8-$20 (according to where you live)

Car insurance $80 (according to your car)

Groceries $??

Gas $??

Clothes ??

Furniture ??

Up-keep on your vehicle ??

Misc. ??

Oh, I forgot to mention...girlfriend expenses, time to clean up the house, washing your clothes, etc.

BTW, how much did you say your salary totals each month?

First of all, what happened? Take some time to think. Are you just reacting to somehting that just happened, or are you actually serious. Life is hard on your own, very hard. Fetts is right,
Here's what the bills could look like
rent: 600$/month
power: 100$/month
phone: 50$/month
water/sewage/garbage: 50$/month
food: 150-200$/month
clothes: as needed, expensive
car payments: 200$/month
Car insurance: ??
health/medical/dental insurance:???
gas: ???

and that's not even taking into account emergencies.
The list goes on and on.

Second of all, you definately don't want to drop out of school. It seriosuly hurts your chances of getting a good job, or even a job that you like.

Take some time to think. There's certainly a way to solve whatever is troubling you other than running away.

IamDavid...

It's not, if you're capable of supporting yourself.

From the info we have, though, it sounds like a decision made out of anger & frustration, rather than logic.

I've had those thoughts before, but it won't work, don't do it, you will only regret for what you did later. Good luck.

Harrald, lol. ;)

Hang in there honey, and feel free to vent... we all do it sometimes.

As far as the moving out thing...

I decided to be 'independent' of my parents when I was 17 but it wasn't really because there was anything wrong with them. I just wanted to do things my way... and then I hit that wall called Reality.

There are some people who really should get away from their families, but that is still no great solution.

Whatever you do, take time to think it through. Because of the choices I made early on, I went through a divorce at age 20 and it took me over 10 years to get my Bachelor's Degree. It's all turned out well in the end, but life could have been a lot easier if I had just been more patient with my stuffy old-fashioned parents. ;)

Reality check. You won't be able to do this unless you're working full time and making well above minimum wage (say $15/hour +). I live in your area (kitchener) so I kinda know the expenses. And even on full time (40 hours/week) @ $15/hr you'll be just getting by BARELY (you can forget about cable tv, internet, eating out, going to the movies, etc.). For that you'd have to drop out of school and that is not worth it at all...just because your hate your family. Hell, almost everyone your age hates their family at some point. I know I did once!

Move out when you're done school and can get a decent paying job.

I've moved out before (not entirely to get away from family, but because I wanted the experience of doing that). In NYC, my little tiny studio costed me about 1000/month.

Here's some words of advice. Do NOT move out if the rent costs you more than 1.0-1.5 weeks salery. If you do, you will be missing the other things that you need. Food, Bills, Fun, ISP, emergency, etc, etc. What everone says here is correct. You also will have to cook for yourself too and clean. It's not that gamourous, so think it over a couple of times and work out the figures. I'm not discouraging you, just giving you a heads up if you do decide on going through with it.

FYI, my moving out was great though, my family respected what I did and they took me much more seriously afterwards. I stayed out for 6 months and came back later on when the entire family guilt tripped me. haha...

That's very accurate. Even looking back at it now, I had to work REAL hard, FT school/FT work (40+ hours at 16/hr). The experience from moving out has been great though, and I look to do it again, maybe in the next year or so. :D
