It should arrive on Friday. What kind of odds am I looking at for an S-IPS panel vs the PVA?

The odds arent very good, but since it's a refurb, it might be an older 2007wfp and the first ones were almost exclusively S-IPS.

WHen you get it look on the back, if it's Rev A0 and made in MExico, then it is almost surely S-IPS, because that's the Rev and place of manufacture of my 2007wfp and it's S-IPS.

To be sure, you're going to have to enter the monitor's service menu. I can't remember how right now, but u can look it up easily. At the top it will list the panel being used. When you get that panel code, report back here.

My condolences dude.

Can you give us an idea of what it looks like in terms of color, viewing angle and response time?

To be honest, it seems pretty damn good to me. A pretty big improvement over the 17' Viewsonic TN lcd I was using beforehand. Viewing angles are fine, minimal backlight bleed in the right corners of the screen, and no dead pixels. Colors look great, and I haven't noticed any sort of ghosting. The only reason I was down at first, was because of the comparison shots between the two types of panels at HardForum. Up close, it really doesn't seem bad though.

Dell has the 21 day satisfaction guarantee, so I can send it back if I want to try my luck again. I'll take a couple days to debate whether or not it's worth the aggravation.

Maybe PVA vs S-IPS is overrated. I mean, how many dell 2405 or 2407 owners do you hear complaining about their monitors? :p

I ended up exchanging the monitor for another refurb, and this one is S-IPS. The only negative is the monitor has 860 hours logged on it. I'm going to keep it though :p

One blue stuck pixel that I can barely notice. Whites are a lot better on this vs the PVA. No color shifting as opposed to the PVA. I never realized how bad the shifting was until I got the IPS model. Overall I'm pleased. Now I have to debate on whether to pick up an extended warranty...

Did you just order online, or call to order? Did they hassle you to exchange, and did it cost anything?

Considering the same purchase (Dell 2007WFP). I am an 11yr commercial digital photographer, so comments regarding image quality, tonal transitions in shadow areas, etc would be welcome.

I ordered online via dell outlet. They had a $50 off refurb 2007WPF and 2007FP monitors, so I got mine for $239 + tax. Not too shabby at all. The exchange was a breeze. They shipped the replacement with a prepaid return label, so I didn't have to pay a thing. They have a 21 day satisfaction guarantee so you can exchange until you get the monitor you want.
