The nursing supervisor took it well, even if I called in 4 1/2 hours late.

What is the latest you ever called in?
 
When I was like 17 I worked at a grocery store, was supposed to be in at 8am. Well the previous night I was at a party and didnt hear my alarm go off. Around 11am my mother wakes me up saying my boss was on the phone wondering why I wasnt at work. 3 hours late, no biggy 😀
 
I'd get a phone call before an hour was up, if I didn't show up for work. We're so thin now that any unexcused absence is a big problem.

There were 2 people, including myself, covering my section yesterday, in a section that was previously manned with 7 to 10 people a year and a half ago.

Trust me, they called, but since I have trouble sleeping during the day I unplugged the phone in my room.
