Well I never thought I'd be posting this, but my mom's getting laid off

Yep, after 22 years they're closing down her plant.

Actual terminations will start in 4 months, with the entire plant closed within 12-18.

Oh well, at least it'll be easier for me to get financial aid ^_^

jeez. im sorry to hear that (i know what its like when a parent looses a job). i hope it works out for you. best of luck.

Well, my dad still has some job security - so long as idiots continue to work, there's plenty of need for a safety coordinator, and so long as the company stays afloat (And I can't see P&G failing any time soon), there's plenty of need for a storage/trucking hub. Outsource DAT.

Was she in manufacturing?

mmm I know she was a supervisor, and she probably was in manufacturing, but I can't say for sure

Hmmm do you actually know your mother?
Talk to her?

As a citizen of the UK I would like to say that our country is much better than yours when it comes to people not being laid off......but I would be talking out of my anus if I did.....things are bad globally, just need to wait for the human race to evolve a bit more before issues like this get properly solved.

Not really, we're just changing focuses. We're becoming less and less of a nation of laborers and producers of physical products and more service and knowledge oriented. I certainly find that to be a good thing, people will adapt over time. There will just be less factory jobs available but just as they've done in the past, people will learn new skills
