As long as you're getting just about the best machine you can buy, you might as well get a DVD-ROM so you don't have to rip from your burner. =)

Nice system, but personally I'd go with slighly lower-end components and save a $500. (3.2GHz P4, Radeon 9800 Pro, etc.) Then use THAT cash towards a better CPU/GPU in a year or two.

JackHawksmoor speaks wisely. No way would I spent $480 on a video card when practically nothing can take advantage of it.

Sweet rig, but you did kind of neglect the sound a bit, you should have grabbed an Audigy ZS and the Logitech Z-5300's to round out that system! But anyway, hope you enjoy it.

Sound has always been a secondary concern for me. Especially since, I live in a dorm. I don't want to piss my roomate off too much; most of the time I use headphones anyway.

you are in college and can afford a $2400 computer?! I personally would have got an Athlon64 and used that one year trial of WindowsXP 64 bit edition, however this set-up is VERY nice.

Then grab a pair of Sennheiser HD280 Pro Headphones instead of those speakers...

I have decent headphones already and I do use my speakers sometimes. However, the speakers I have now are total crap; they came with a computer I got 7 years ago... my school has a deal with microsoft so I can get any MS operating system I want for free anyway so beta testing their software isn't that appealing to me.

Personally, I would have gone with an Athlon 64 build and also not gone with common-name. There is nothing wrong with brands like Lite-On. In fact, I like my lite-on CDRW drive.

Also, why did you go with the Corsair RAM instead of Mushkin Level 2 Hi-Performance or OCZ Platinum? Both have been shown in Anandtech tests to be the fastest DDR400 RAM and I doubt with a P4 3.4 that you will be overclocking that much.

I don't really see soundcard as that much of a big deal, unless you're an audiophile. I use my onboard sound from my old Soyo Dragon K7V Plus and it serves me fine (it's 5.1 C-MEDIA with in and out S/PDIF and in and out optical.)

My nerves got to me and I canceled the order : ( I'm going to wait for a while; atleast until the amd price drop and think over my plans again.

Your list was on the right track. You went on the high end for cpu, vid card, and hard drive. You could go with a bit lower cpu, 9800 Pro, and a IDE HD and would cut significant off your total without loosing much performance. Good luck.

Edit: Also, your PS listed seems a bit expensive.

Amd64 for everyone!!!

Intel=Evil

Yes it has been proven.

But yes, I agree, that is way to much for a vidcard.
